Platinum Upgrade?

Last few times when I've been at that property as a Hyatt Diamond, the HR Clearwater put me up in big studio type rooms, but not any kind of suite with a separated bedroom. And my stays there are not during peak periods. It may have had to do with the negotiated rate being rather cheap, but still no upgrade even as a Diamond. Ordinarily, Platinums may get a better view, higher floor or slightly larger room than most other customers, but the upgrades are more likely more noticeable and frequent as a Diamond than as a Platinum when it comes to most properties. But there could be an element of the rate making a difference too.

Platinums may get upgraded to a preferred room in the category booked - a very subtle upgrade that you may not notice unless you know the property well. Platinums should not really expect any significant upgrade.
Diamonds are supposed to get a complimentary upgrade to the best available non-suite room. Some properties do not always do this and others routinely go above and beyond when circumstances allow. Suites maybe confirmed using a DSU if inventory is available but properties are not required to provide them without these instruments - although a few properties do routinely. You're supposed to get club access if there's a club or a restaurant breakfast if there is no club or its closed.
Courtesy Card holders (unpublished level that is by invitation only - formerly property owners and other invited individuals - presently appears to be high spenders - think $25,000+ annually) are supposed to get upgraded to suites (even presidentials) when available at check in.

Bolding is mine, I guess this is what I was considering an upgrade. But from reading this it appears its just like a better view or something very minor. Thanks everyone for the clarification.

Room categories depend very much on the property. In some places, a view means a higher category while in other places, it would be considered a preferred room of the same category as similar rooms without the view.

It never hurts to ask, something along the lines of "any chance at a suite?". I used to say this when I was Hilton Gold which doesn't have suite upgrades as a published benefit and it worked sometimes. Just be prepared to be told no a lot

I really hope that GP platinums seldom get suites. It's a benefit that comes after five nights, which in some cases means that you've given Hyatt something like $500 in revenue. I'd expect that suites get saved for those that may actually pay for them, or that use a DSU.
