Hyatt Zilara Cancun REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Haven't been yet but I'd note that if you read reviews closely it appears that the Cancun properties consistently score the highest and thus not all Hyatt all-inclusives are equal. Oddly enough, all of them are run by the same company (Playa Resorts) so you'd expect a ton of consistency, but it really seems like there are differences in quality (particularly noticeable with Ziva P.V. and Ziva Cabo). We've done Ziva Cancun 10 times+ and it always satisfies us (and we have high expectations....) in terms of room quality (exceptional), food, drinks, ambiance, service, cleanliness, and location location location!

From what I'm seeing now, they're open with some of the services limited, buffets, one of the bars, etc.

We had a recent stay as Globalists at the resort- check out the video for latest views. Overall, Globalist doesn't help you too much here, but we did receive a top-floor room (definitely request this, as lower level rooms can have a lot of above floor noise from people moving chairs). Food at the resort was great- we really loved Pelicanos and Asiana. The sports bar is a nice addition during playoff time. The shows were fun to watch each evening (the Russian rock violinist was great), and all staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend- compared to the Ziva, Zilara is quieter but Ziva has more activities. Based on food alone, I would always choose Zilara.

When we arrived we were processed at regular check in. We did receive a small upgrade (and there aren't many upgrades to be had here besides a higher floor- not a fault of the staff). Never was told anything about spa waived/free massage. We did receive 4 PM late check out.

Recently stayed as a globalist. We were escorted to a private office for check-in, no upgrades were available since we needed double beds. They did offer a upgraded room with a king size bed + roll on but we passed. We were offered late checkout but we didn't need it.
Hotel was pretty full during end of year holiday weekend. We were offered to try Chef's plate(?) which is for higher tier suites but couldn't get past their dress code. lol
Not too impressed with the hotel, it's pretty worn and food was mediocre at best. All the restaurants were open and we tried most of them. Sabina was regularly checking if we had everything we needed but we actually never got it.

Zilara attracts more of an older coupled heavier drinking crowd. It is gorgeous however, the food is good, and I really enjoy the more adult oriented evening shows at Zilara. But if I was going solo I would not go to Zilara.

I just wanted to share my experience in respect of the deposit taken by the property. My deposit was taken about three weeks before my stay, but a last minute change meant that I would stay there for less nights than they had taken in the deposit.
Roll on check-out and I had a $1200+ credit on my account which the agent assured me would take 24-48 hours to appear on my credit card.
I got in touch with the hotel and they advised that it was likely to be 20 working days.
Lo and behold, the credit appears 21 calendar days after check-out.
Disappointing in truth as it's just them hanging on to my money and me having to go through the labour of getting Amex to pay out to my bank.

Have a booking for mid march at zilara, 5 nights
confirmed into ocean front jr suite using SUA.
Received an offer to upgrade to premium suites including beach cabana reservation, access to chef's plate and a bottle of liquor.
is liquor not included? i thought they provide bottles of liquor regardless?
upon inquiring, seems like the upgrade fee/NIGHT to the presidential is = to a 1 day beach cabana rental so seems like it should be worth it except i would be paying all 5 nights, but with reduced capacity, is reservations really necessary?
any recommended scuba, fishing companies?
will be my first time in cancun after a week in maui (also first time)

2. Liquor is included. They are just offering to leave a bottle in your room. Can't imagine why you'd need it with the bars flowing...
3. There are free beach cabanas available and the beach ones, in general, are pretty removed from the property. Most people prefer the poolside cabanas with full service up by the hotel building. I thought having a reserved beach cabana would be nice, but we never used it (and wouldn't use it). Like I said, plenty of freely available shaded seating on the beach for when you want to be there. PLUS - if you want to reserve one onsite for a day, you'd likely get one of the super premium cabanas with all kinds of goodies - those are NOT the ones set aside for the reserved access.
4. Chef's table is typically included for Globalists anyway.
If your a Globalist then the upgrade fee gets you a nicer room and that's really it. The base rooms here are junior suites and they are very nice. I've also heard noise complaints about the so called premium suites as they have adjoining doors to other rooms (or at least some do) which is bad for noise - whereas the standard junior suites do not have adjoining doors.
My suggestion would be to pull the upgrade, get the normal upgrade on arrival, and if you don't love your room ask about an upgrade when you are there. The price is likely negotiable like most things in Mexico and would be less if your already there and unhappy with your standard room.
Also, as an aside, while we like the Zilara, we prefer the Ziva. You might want to check that out too, as the Corner Suites at Ziva are spectacular rooms available for Globalist upgrades. The Turquoize Tower is also pretty amazing with its private rooftop pool (adults only), spa access, and wonderful rooms. The location of Ziva is VASTLY better than Zilara, as well. Zilara does have better evening entertainment, better base rooms, and modestly better food in some venues. Everything else about Ziva is far superior IMHO...

1. Total waste of a Globalist suite upgrade (assume that's what you mean by SUA). I'd try to pull it back if I were you. Virtually all the rooms are ocean front and classified as a junior suite. Your all but guaranteed to get that anyway. Save your upgrades for properties where it matters (like the Ziva Cancun - matters a ton there).

just emailed concierge to check on possibility of getting to turquoise tower @ Ziva
as for SUA, i have extra so IDC too much about that.
Chef's table being included for globalist is a key point, makes the upgrade fee a lot less attractive but points out the marketing tactic of
USUAL FEE $400, SPECIAL GLOBALIST RATE $130.
INCLUDES: STUFF YOU ALREADY GET
MORE STUFF YOU ALREADY GET
BIGGER ROOM
