Irritating pricing...

I can book May 11-13 (Sat/Sun) at HR Santa Clara Ca for 99/night, but the price just booking Sunday alone is 199. Its literally cheaper for me to book two nights vs 1. (inclusive of the 2nd night)

[none are advanced purchase]

I would call the Diamond line and see if they can offer you some help or guidance.

That is quite normal with Hyatt, and other brands to an extent. I often book a week stay as Nights 1-2, Night 3, Nights 4-6, Night 7, or something like that and have them merged later since it is cheaper.

I've mentioned this before. Hyatt.com lacks the ability to have rate changes during a stay.

In your case I'm surprised it didn't show the two day stay as $199/night instead of $99/night. I usually see stuff like:

1: $99
2: $199
3: $99
but
1-3: $199

The $99 price per night requires a Saturday night stay. It is no different than what we see with airlines, with both using their respective yield management systems.

I am not defending the pricing, just stating a fact. Also, I just encountered the same thing for an upcoming stay in PHX, although the difference was about 1/2 of what you are seeing.

A call to the Diamond line might be helpful, as they might find a non- public rate which you could use.

I have no issue what so ever with price variation... I do have an issue when the price is exactly double to one day vs that day and the day prior. If I could check in the day prior, Id take both days and the points...

If you can arrive before the hotel's normal check out time, you can reserve the room for the night before for a guaranteed early arrival. Just be sure that they're aware that you're doing this and will arrive in the morning. You don't want your room to be given away because you were a no show.

On the other end, you can book the room for an additional day to give you a very late check out if needed.

It's funny because I ran into exactly the same thing at the exact same property on the same dates.

I sounds like an easy way to get credit for an additional night for free for anyone who realizes how they're pricing these dates.

that is all true my friend, but the OP has a different comment about the rates (and you can still see it's true for this weekend also). Please re-read the OP.

In a nutshell, without selecting any discounts or corp rates, you can book 2 nights at HRSC, Sat and Sun nights for $198 ($89 + $109). You can book one night at HRSC, Sunday night for $199. It's like they forgot to load the discounted rate of $109 for stays starting Sunday night. As you know, we can usually find the cheap rates there for Sunday nights also, when checking earlier that week.

Which is what this forum is all about. Now I suggest you remember that next time when somebody else wants to beat the system.
