You used to be able to upgrade to a suite using points on a BRG because it books as daily rate. However, recently this is no longer allowed.

I would certainly hope these upgrades couldn't be applied to any type of discounted rate. Even at the daily rate these constitute a tremendous discount at many properties.

Point upgrades are by far the single feature of the program I value most. I don't have access to a lot of corporate rates, so tend to pay the daily rate for most Hyatt stays anyway. In my view suite upgrades are a good deal for the properties as they often sway my business to high-end Hyatt properties when I would otherwise choose a different hotel.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I was just trying to figure out if it makes sense to burn the 6000 given that the higher rate needs to be used to book the room.

Just wanted to see everyone's experience using these upgrades:

1) Is the upgrade bookable as long as it shows a suite on the "daily rate" section? Sometimes there are suites for the packages, and not for sale on the "daily rate" on hyatt.com, and customer service have not been able to see these..

2) I've had a few occasions where I have done this at the front desk at check-in. What is everyone else's experience? Grand Hyatt Tokyo specifically refused to do it a couple of times. (With grand suite king available on the website)

Either way, it's a great benefit. Especially at the Japan hyatts where suites are often 3x or more than the daily rate

No, just because the suite is listed as available for the Hyatt Daily Rate does not mean that the suite is available for upgrade with points. Suite Upgrades via any mechanism (Diamond, points, e-Standby, etc.) are capacity controlled. You must call to check availability of an upgrade by a specific mechanism.

Allowing point upgrades on a BRG rate was a loophole, never a published benefit. Hyatt never intended this to happen. As far as I can tell, the loophole was closed well over a year ago, as applying point upgrades now automatically adjusts the rate to the Hyatt Daily Rate.

Is it possible to use a suite and club upgrade for the same reservation, ie upgrade a regular room (with Hyatt daily rate) to club suite?

Depends on property - for example suites at the GH Kauai do not get club access unless you're Diamond.

Does this work for ALL Hyatt properties? I mean, usually for special rates or upgrades, there are always a few properties which are the exception, notoriously the PH Maldives.

Anyone successfully upgraded with points for a suite at that specific property?

AFAIK all the rooms are villas / suites at that property (only difference being location) so there is no suite upgrades applicable of any type at the location.

AFAIK you only need to use one upgrade "instrument" (like the 6,000 GP points) to upsell your room to one of the suites. At most hotels the suites have access to the Grand Club/Regency Club.

You can find the detailed info for each room category within the Hyatt website.
Go to the hotel of your choice
-> Rooms and suites
-> Click on the suite description

Should deliver something like that:
(Description of the entry level/smallest suite)

Text: "Access to Regency Club lounge included"

Or just ask the hotel where you will use the upselling instrument.

Hope this helps. And enjoy your stay.

Unfortunately this is not true in NA, there a suite does not include club access.
