Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Then I don't know why you wouldn't stay at the Marquis or SGS.

Very likely your stay at a Hyatt will be inferior with no Hyatt status.

The FHR offer is a Grand King, and an upgrade if available. The spa credit means nothing, as with the free bf since I get that on my status elsewhere. I also always get Club floor.
I checked my Hyatt status, I used to be a Gold but now I'm a "Member". I assume that means I've essentially no status. SO, here's the question;

Is there much chance of an upgrade to Club Floor when booking Hyatt with FHR ? And, is this a hotel worth a few days at? I've walked by, and through, many times and it always seemed more touristic/busy/impersonal than the JWM, the Ren, the SGS, or LeM....
I've been consistently treated better at Marriott properties in BKK as a "Gold" than at the Hyatt Erawan as a "Platinum". Based on my experience and comments on this thread, it seems you're not really noticed at the GHE unless you had Diamond status. I have my doubts that FHR will give you the perks you're hoping for.

Note that if you book a Grand King, there are a couple grades above that - Grand View King and Grand Deluxe King. Being given one of either of these will be considered an "upgrade" but notice in the description that each are 40sqm. So the room size will be the same regardless of the upgrade - the difference is in the view or a slightly different layout if you get a corner room.
The buffet breakfast is nice at the GHE but I didn't find it vastly different than say the Renaissance in terms of selection or quality though the atrium at the GHE is a bit better physical space.

Regardless of which property you choose, hope you have a great stay in BKK.

If rate is acceptable, could book club room at GH Erawan through FHR and still be upgraded. Otherwise, I would probably prefer a standard room FHR booking at Erawan to the Marriott properties anyway.

If you're looking for other options:

Anantara Siam Bangkok has good deals for club rooms from time to time.

Further down the steet is StR, where you could also use your SPG status. Also FHR/Virtuoso/Starwood Luxury Privileges benefits would "stack" with status.

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is also bookable through Luxury Privileges, as despite its name it is actually a Luxury Collection property.

Do you get night/stay credit with FHR bookings?

Yup. All "luxury travel agent" type bookings (FHR/Virtuoso/etc) qualify.

Vs Conrad

I know this is kind of subjective, but I am choosing between this place and the Conrad for 3 nights in Sep. I am Explorist and plat HH Diamond, so was wondering which offers the better amenities/upgrades for status. Also I will use a club access award that if staying at GH.

Thanks

I stayed at both a few months ago, and I definitely prefer the GH over the Conrad. Like you said, this is subjective. These are my reasons. I prefer the location of the GH. You can walk to malls, and there are food options. I didn't like the location of the Conrad since it wasn't close to anything. If you want the plush that Conrad gives out, you should stay there. Maybe you can split your time between the two? I liked the juices and breakfast options at the Conrad a little more. The juices at GH weren't as good. I also felt the service at GH was better. I had a suite in both, and preferred my suite at the GH even though it was the base suite. I felt the offerings in the Conrad lounge was slightly better than the GH lounge. That said, the GH lounge is nicer and more spacious. Not sure if you looked into the PH, but I prefer the location of the GH versus the PH. Good luck deciding! I can answer more specific questions if you have any.

I agree with cruisingmickey that the GH location is much better.

You're not going to get an upgrade at the Erawan; as HH Diamond, you will likely get one at the Conrad, to at least a corner room. I think the Conrad has a nicer lounge. Otherwise, neither of these properties would be my first choice in BKK. I think Marriott/SPG have better options.

Club level award IS an upgrade, and in my experience status will help with prioritized room allocation.

GH Erawan is in an entirely different league than the Conrad, but choosing between the two can be subjective and of course depends on rates and/or status.

Thanks very much for your reply. I think I'll pass on Conrad. At the dates I need, GH seems quite expansive, same price as the new PH, however it seems most feedback about the PH was not that good. Do you guys think it would worth a try the new PH (being at the same rate as GH)?

I think if the two are the same rate and if you have Globalist status, I would give the PH a shot. Since you mentioned you are explorist, I would probably do the GH. I really enjoyed everything about the lounge - the service, the offerings, the comfort and the view. It was nice to come back after a long day of sightseeing and relaxing with a nice ice cold drink. It was one of the best lounges I've been to. I really enjoyed the convenience of being able to walk to the malls for grub. Granted the PH is located within a mall, it's a bit farther. My cab drove by the PH a few times, and the area isn't bad. There are food options surrounding it, but the GH area seems more "local" to me and more things to do/eat.

That said, because I've been to the GH, I will probably check out the PH next time just to get a first hand feel.

Thanks very much for your help. Just went on and booked 2 room for 3 nights at GH, 13th-16th Sep. PH is only about 1000 bah more as their openning offer. However after checking with my wife, she's more prefer a better location hotel, and she doesn't want to change hotels so we'll stay all three days at GH.

Serene Grand Hyatt Spa Cottage in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Bangkok (10 Photos)

Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok

Recently we had an amazing upgrade to a Spa Cottage at the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok. It was the right upgrade at the right time

Hyatt Call Center Experience Pre-arrival

I had business meetings in Bangkok scheduled for Thursday and Friday. My wife and I decided that she would join and we would extend into the weekend until Sunday. This seemed to be a perfect time to use my Globalist Suite Upgrades as I really didn't think I'd remain Globalist next year due to the new 60 night qualification mistake they made

I called the Hyatt Reservation Line and had farily poor service. My first request was to extend my current 2 night booking to a 4 night booking and adjust for double occupancy. The agent came back and said that she'd made a second booking for the extra two nights. I received an email for the new booking for Friday-Sunday for 2 guests. I explained that this isn't what I wanted, and explained that I needed it to be a single booking to be able to use my Suite Upgrade cert. This would be great since for the first 2 nights I had many colleagues in town and we could catch up in the living r

The agent said that unfortunately she was unable to make my booking for 4 nights as they are sold out. I reminded her that just a moment ago she made a booking for the extra 2 nights just fine. I suggested that maybe she should call the property. She asked if she could put me on hold while she took care of it. She came back and assured me that it had been taken care of and I now had a booking for 4 nights with double occupancy.

The night before arrival I checked my World of Hyatt account and saw that I had 2 seperate reservations, each for single occupancy. I went into the reservations and changed them to double occupancy and figured I would just ask the hotel to ensure we didn't have to change rooms. I'd given up on the suite.

Check In

We arrived at the hotel around 2PM or so and approached the front desk. While checking in I askd the agent if he could please arrange our room so we wouldn't have to change rooms. He asked if I'd ever stayed in their Spa Cottage. I let him know that I had actually, just one time. He then informed me that they really wanted me to experience the Spa Cottage and we had been upgraded to one. I was thrilled. I knew my wife would be excited and chuckled as I thought of catching up with colleagues in this luxurious room. Quickly I shot a message to them that someone should pick up a bottle of something in duty free if they still had time.

When we arrived in the Spa Cottage there was an envelope with my name already on the table with a basket of fruit. So clearly the upgrade wasn't a decision just made while we are checking in. The foreghouthg that went into making our long weekend great is really appreciated.

Room

The spa cottages are located on the 5th floor just past the swimming pool. It is a bit akward as every time you come and go you pass the front desk of the spa. It is great to be greeted, but every time you arrive or depart your floor being greeted is a big funny. Still, nice to see smiling faces all the time.

The first time I stayed in the spa cottage I arrived at night and didn't realize that the spaces between the sidewalk stones actually had grass between them. I ended up pulling the handle out of my suitcase as it caught on one of the stones. This time I remembered and lifted the suitcases as we arrived near the cottages.

The entranc to the cottages is nice. A small gathers of doorways around a common area. IMG_2013.JPG

The spa cottage is comprised of a few rooms. The entranceways has umbrellas, a long shoe horn, some Panama hats.

IMG_2014.JPG

The living room is spacious with a very long sofa, a large coffee table, a desk with some chairs, a rocking chair with a Jim Thompson blanket and a large TV. There was also a mahjong set and another wooden game.

IMG_2015.JPGIMG_2016.JPG

The bedroom has a nice view of a small garden just before the wall. Beyond the wall is one of the busiest intersection of Bangkok, but you really don't notice it at all.

IMG_2017.JPGIMG_2018.JPG

The bedroom also has a door which leads out to a private patio with a table and chairs and they also set up loungers for you during the day.

IMG_2023.JPG

Both the bedroom and the living room connect to the spa treatment room which is also where the closets and minibar are located.

The bathroom is between the spa treatment room and the bedroom.

Dining

One evening we ordered You & Mee's Lobster Khao Soi from room service. We love Khao Soi and this rendition was really delicious. It came within a reasonable time and was the perfect temperature.

We didn't get a chance to enjoy breakfast in the main cafe until the weekend. It looks like they are doing some renovations. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings there was a line of people waiting to be seated around 10 AM, ahead of the 10:30 AM end of breakfast.IMG_2057.JPG

The selection at breakfast was as varied and delicious as always. The staff were working hard and did a great job clearing tables and ensuring people were seated as fast as possible.

We also visited the lounge one evening and had a really delicious pumpkin dish. One of the things I'll miss about Globalist is the lounge at this property. The staff is very attentiv

Overall

The Grand Hyatt Erawan is one of my favorite Hyatt properties. The rooms are spacious, the lounge is great, the location is hard to beat, once Kalboz clued me in on the side entrance facing Amarin Plaza to get to the BTS while avoiding going up in the Erawan Mall.

There was a small issue with the room when we arrived and while it was being fixed the lounge manager came down to the Spa and asked if we were comfortable and whether it was ok that engineering would spend a bit more time fixing the problem. It was fine and it was really great that she inquired in person.

Upon departure we were greeted by one of the most cheerful front door staff members in Bangkok. She is always full of energy and has a great memory. She actually pulled up a forum post with our wedding pictures and told my wife how much she enjoyed reading the post.

With the unfortunate changes Hyatt made with the introduction of World of Hyatt and termination of the wonderful Gold Passport program, I don't know if I will be top-tier again. But regardless, I'll look for more opportunities to stay at the Grand Hyatt Erawan due to the great staff, wonderful location and att

That was an even better trick when the BTS outside up escalators (in front of Amarin and across the street in front of Intercon) were functioning.... years ago at this point.

Nice upgrade, I've yet to have a night in the cottages. ^

Recent Upgrade Experiences?

Hi

What is the usual upgrade chances at this hotel. I am a Hyatt Globalist and planning on staying at the hotel in a couple of weeks.

I actually had a 2 night stay last month, out of which 1 night i was in the std room that i had booked and the 2nd night got upgraded to Premier Suite which was nice.

Hence wondering, what you can expect in terms of room upgrades on average?

Thanks
