Deficit Accounts

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne in early September. Received a phone call from them a few hours ago mentioning they forgot to take out the points for my points stay. (24,000) (After thinking about what happened I think I figured out why they never charged me/loop hole in their system)

They mentioned that they needed to take the points from a future points stay in 2012 I booked (Park Hyatt Beijing). Couldn't finish the call and told them to call me back tomorrow to sort it out.

Called Plat line and the rep says he has never heard of a hotel canceling a hotel stay to redeem their points they are owed but he has heard of accounts going deficit.

Has anyone had either thing happen to their accounts?

I know I've said this before in SPG sub-forum for other reasons but I think I would stop staying at Hyatt if my account was -24,000.

Cool

Well U do owe the points to GP, so let them have them. However, GP will let U keep your points reservation for Beijing & wait 4U2 earn the needed points. Or your friend can transfer points 2U fee-free. Or U can apply for the Chase Hyatt Visa or Sapphire Preferred Visa to get what U need.

Did you use "U" instead of you on purpose? Seems much more aggressive.

They could always go with option #2 and charge your cc the rack rate for the night.

They caught the mistake, its time to pony up, you win some and you lose some!

No, Joe, that's just my style when I type on line! I often type 4U = for you, 2U = to you, etc. !

You owe Hyatt for your stay. You made a new reservation while fully aware that you did not have enough points.

If you write a check and it doesn't get cashed right away it doesn't give you the right to spend this money on something else, right?
