Diamond suite upgrade useage - applied before exp of 2/28 for future stay

Sorry if this is already common knowledge, but I hadn't seen it here before...

I can't guarantee this information, but I was just calling in to burn up my remaining suite upgrades by the end of the year and I was told this by the diamond line rep:

Suite upgrades now expire on Feb 28th and can be booked for any future reservation as long as it is done before Feb 28th. On March 1st the new 4 are added to your account.

So no need to use them up by the expiration date because you can apply them to a reservation well into the new year. This is great news!

Of course the YMMV warning applies - since training of CS reps are still not really up to snuff. But if this is now "rule", its great news.

This is great news indeed, since I still have 4 certs in the bank.

I do have a remaining problem, which is that the hotels I pay for are not usually the ones where I care to burn a suite upgrade. The expensive hotels I use points for are the ones where I'd like an upgrade.

And at a number of properties, the suites on offer are in less than desirable locations. For me, view always trumps suite.

I think I need Courtesy Card status to overcome these handicaps. The Presidential Suite is usually in the best view location. At one time, mere Diamonds were not infrequently offered the Presidential without a cert.

I realize I'm spoiled. But, has anyone had luck recently in using a cert, or getting a cert-free suite upgrade on an award stay? As an infrequent or first-time guest, that is.

Wow. This would be very valuable. I'm going to have 1 or 2 spares this year, but could book ahead.

I'll wait for official confirmation before thinking about my plans.
Thanks for posting.

I think this is definitely a YMMV issue. IMHO, it would be too hard to track in the event of changes or cancellations.

Am I the only one who read "New rules" and expected something really bad?

Not really - that's why I edited the title to be more descriptive.

Greetings All
I'm very excited for everyone here cheering this news
But as I understood this from the Hyatt folks it may be old news
Or news that was never very clear in the first place last year
As the rules remained the same last year as well with the ability
To book into the future as long as one books before the expiration
Date.Of course folks have to know this can be done before they expire
And it caught me off guard last year after mine expired that I could have
Utilized the upgrades

Maybe something has changed since Jan.

But more likely than not is that none of the csrs know and possibly no one knows.

Dear FTer’s,

Thank you for your patience while we confirmed the use of the Diamond Suite Upgrade Certificates. Diamond members have up to 2/28/2011 to redeem this year’s suite upgrade awards. These awards can be redeemed for future stays beyond 2/28/2011, however if the reservation is cancelled, the award is also cancelled. Hope this helps answer any questions regarding the redemption of Diamond Suite Upgrades.

Safe Travel,

Brock S.

If only these were usable on award stays when I actually want a suite upgrade...
