Each of our credit cards was charged a bit over $200 (but slightly different amounts, mine was $218.85).

Booking on all points, as a globalist (and guest of honor) I was not expecting any charges before our stay. Thoughts?
I also booked my stay in February with points and I don't have any charges.

I booked a king room on points (not cash plus points) for 6 nights late July 2024. I then used an SUA via MHC.
I ALSO booked a 2 queen room on my wife's account with points, and used a GOH.

Each of our credit cards was charged a bit over $200 (but slightly different amounts, mine was $218.85).

Booking on all points, as a globalist (and guest of honor) I was not expecting any charges before our stay. Thoughts?
Update: Contacted MHC (who graciously advocated for both reservations even though one of them is GOH under my wife who is not Globalist) and the Hotel is refunding the charges. No word on what they actually were supposed to be.

I knew I was going to have to watch this hotel closely, just didn't imagine it would be before the stay even started.

Glad you caught it. I had to ask for a mini bar charge to be taken off (they have the refrigerator with scales even on top of the fridge) and for the resort fee to be removed on one of my stays there. I read from someone that they even had charges appear days after checking out.

The Reserve, is it worth it?

I have been considering upselling to the reserve from a Grand Suite, I am Globalist and looking for more space to work from.

How is the regular suite and does the reserve have any valuable extra benefits?

Just completed a 5 night stay here on points (Explorist) with 2 adults and 2 children. Very disappointing experience overall. Kids loved it, but I would not recommend coming here without kids, unless there are any adult only areas at the Rosewood or SLS or somewhere else I'm not aware of.

We were "upgraded" to a fountain view so that the "kids can view the fountain", which I guess is nice. Room was very underwhelming, but expected given the photos we looked at before booking.

Food was very mediocre (and obviously expensive, but we knew that going into it), Marcus was excellent though.

Service was abysmal. Staff seemed extremely overworked and didn't seem to care about much.

No late checkout available, despite the resort not being too busy and it being a Monday, oh well.

Won't be returning, just way too expensive for the value you receive.

This review does not surprise me. I stayed at Baha Mar the first two years it opened. At the time, the points per night were less (20k), the lounge was open and it was relatively empty. Even then the service was not perfect. I have lower expectations for my trip coming up in April and already think it will be my last stay unless the water park turns out to be a big hit with my niece and nephew or they reopen the lounge in the future.

Finally got to check this place out for the day on a cruise. Burned a Cat 1-7 cert here since I wouldn't have a good use for it otherwise. Massive resort, too many people, very expensive for food/drinks once you're there. Baha Bay was a great addition (though Atlantis' waterpark is better). As a Globalist, received an oceanview upgrade despite there still being suites on sale. Overall, wouldn't return.

I have an upcoming stay on Feb 29 - Mar 03 with my wife + 1 year old kid and have a 1 King Ocean View booked. I'm an Explorist but have a Guest of Honor award that my friend placed on my reservation. Looking at the rooms what are included in the Standard Suite that I can expect an upgrade (I've checked availability on those dates and see the following rooms):
  • One-Bedroom Fountain View Residence with One King Bed (East Tower)
  • One-Bedroom Fountain View Residence with One King Bed (West Tower)
  • One-Bedroom Ocean View Residence with One King Bed (East Tower)

The basic suites for globalist upgrade are the Grand Hyatt suites at the end of the halls in the west tower. Personally I’d rather have an ocean view with balcony in the east tower. The other suites mentioned are all premium suites. But the GOH should get you breakfast and vouchers for 2 drinks a day which are both very valuable here .

If these are the only suites you see, then there are no standard suites available.

Also keep in mind that, just because they are available today, doesn’t mean they will be available to you. Popular resorts get tons of Globalists, all eligible for the same small pool of suites.

Yeah called and they offered a upgrade for an extra $250 a night so just took that to guarantee space for my wife and kids. Didn't want to risk it but at least I'm getting free breakfast

Check what kind of suite they gave you for the $250/nt. Some have full kitchens with giant refrigerators and others have washers/dryers. Could come in handy a family.

Any insights or advice to share on what the closest or best grocery and / or liquor stores are to the hotel that I can taxi to?

Thanks in advance!

There’s a city market about a mile and a half down west bay. I’ve walked it a few time and it’s pretty easy though taxi would be easier w bags of groceries. Taxis aren’t cheap so if you’re only getting a few things consider hoofing it (or going en route from the airport). Quite a few liquor stores right there as well.

Plus there’s a Menchies on the way for some frozen yogurt.

Globalist Breakfast is now n Regatta restaurant

Jazz bar is enjoyable.

Lunch La Palms or Mexican trailer

Free water is available in the departures lounge West Lobby

There is a grocery delivery called Instagopher we've used that works just like instacart called

foodstores2go

Alcohol is only sold in liquor stores, but there are several of those along Bay Street as well. Closest is Liquid Courage, about a 5 minute walk from Bahamar. Masks required. Head out to the street, turn right and head to the traffic circle. Turn left and it’s on your right side, just past some tennis courts.

Cafe Johnny Canoe's is a 5 minute walk across the street from Baha Mar and offers a mix of local favourites and the usual comfort foods. No taxi needed. And there is a complimentary casino shuttle that goes to other resorts on the
