The Friends and Family rate is intended to be offered to travellers who are "friend and family members" of a Carlson employee. That could be a hotel employee, a travel agent (Carlson Wagonlit) or restaurant employee (TGIF) (TGIF sold to Sentinel Capital Partners as of July 2014).
When you book the rate, you are supposed to have the basic data on your friend available at check-in for the hotel to verify that you are indeed authorized to use that rate. Generally, if they ask, they ask for:
1) Employee Name
2) Work location
Please consider that, as per T&C, only employee name and location can be requested only at the check in time.
The new code is RHGRFNF
NOTE:
Booking a rate that you're not entitled to book may result in rate adjustments and Club Carlson account freezing.
In general, the rate is €80 per night in Europe.
*These stays post as "Ineligible" - non-qualifying, non-stay, non-points earning ... so, in sum, don't associate a F&F reservation with your Gold Points account, unless elite perks you hope to enjoy are worth the risk.

I just used this code to book 7 nights in Washington DC in April, 2011. The T&C says through Dec, 2010, but the code worked. The hotel is a little outside of the city, but it is right by a Metro station. $70 + a metro ride, or $349 in the city - you decide which is the better deal!
Thanks OP!

There is a new Radisson in Salzburg... Radisson Blu Hotel and Conference Centre (earlier a Renaissance). Stayed here and liked the rooms. Near the station, a little far from the centre. But ^

Rate was 627 NOK compared to 1870 NOK BAR.
I hope they will honor the rate.

Officially the carlson family and friend code "carlsonf" is bookable until the end of 2010.
However the code works for bookings until the end of 2011.
The rate is fixed now depending on brand at $70-$80 +tax, resp. 70€-80€, which means savings of up to 80%.
Do I run into any problems when using the code for 2011 bookings?
I have read in another forum that somebody was charged BAR as he could not tell the frontdesk staff the friend's name and hotel he works for.

Stayed at the Country Inn & Suites off I35. It was the only Carlson hotel to give a FF rate when I searched. It was a nice suite, no complaints there. Came with free breakfast, some hot foods. Only downside is they don't have room service (they do however outsource to a 3rd party, which I didn't want to bother with). It isn't near the hustle and bustle of Austin, instead is an easy 5 minute drive away. Good luck!

Just booked 3 nights pre-cruise in Copenhagen at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia for €80 (Kr. 589) per night for next September. Reviews on TA are not especially good, but for that price in €€€€€ Copenhagen, we can live with it!
Thanks OP. Guess we'd better go by another Radisson before next September and write down an employee's name, in case what Aldemar posted is true!

OMG - help!!
I have been eyeing the Radisson in Aruba for the past 2 days - under the F&F rate it was $80/night. Today, I finally got my vacation approved at work and when I went in to book it, they're telling me the promotional code is not valid. The lowest rate is $178!!!
Any advice out there??? Should I keep my fingers cross and wait since my trip is not till November??
