HKG Hotel

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions? Not sure if this is the right area...

I will be staying in Hong Kong for around 7-8 nights and was thinking to stay 4 or 5 nights in the same hotel and the other 2-3 nights at another. Is this a good plan or should I just stick with one and forget about hopping?

Hotels I was thinking of are:
Langham Place Hotel in Mongkok and Intercontinental Grand Stamford
I was thinking about the Intercontinental Hong Kong but it is out of my price range.

Langham place was looking at Vital Room or Essential and the IC GS I was looking at just anormal King bed room.

Are both these hotels convenient?

Thanks,
Kenn.

Hi,

Convenient for food, shopping, sightseeing, relaxation, normal touristy things I guess

Budget would be approx HKD1500-1700 per night for 2 adults (King Bed).

I will be in HKG between 27th Dec - 3rd Jan

So I will be spending new years in HK. Probably the IC will be better for the New year fireworks view??? Not sure?

Cheers,
K.

The IC Grand Stanford is not very convenient, mostly because it's far from the subway trains.

For New Year, there had been some lightshows centered around the ifc building in Central for the past 2 years, but 1) it is not 100% certain it'll happen again for 2010 - in fact the 2009 one was in doubt for a while; 2) it is not major fireworks like that for the 2nd night of the Chinese New Year; 3) you can't see the ifc building directly from the Grand Stanford.

Check out the Executive Parlour room at the Metropark Causeway Bay. They have special rate of stay of 7 nights or more. This is a good mid range hotel and all Executive Parlour rooms have harbour view.

There is a previous discussion thread about this hotel:

IMO, no need to do hotel hopping. HK is tiny enough that everything is close to the MTR stations.

The only time I'd consider it if you:
1) Need nights for status (which doesn't seem to be the case).
2) A hotel has an outstanding deal but only on certain nights.

Thanks Guys.

Is mongkok in a bad part of town or it's fine even late at night? Say around 12 midnight.

Is the Grand stamford IC far from a MTR?

There aren't really any bad parts of HK. Mongkok is pretty lively all night but there's nothing to be worried about.

The Grand Stanford is roughly equidistant from TST East an Hung Hom - about a quarter of a mile from each.

There are plenty of "businesses" within a few blocks of the Langham Place hotel that most visitors shouldn't visit, but walking around is perfectly safe any time of the day.

Google images for "Mongkok" and see for yourself. Ask if that's what you like.

If you're picking Western New Year for your honeymoon then HK is a strange place to do it. There is no major New Year celebration here - that's at Chinese New Year. And HK is a real live city with all the grotty bits that this entails.

I think you'd be better off in Sydney.
