Getting to Stanley or Aberdeen from Central?

What is the easiest way to get to Aberdeen or Stanley from Central? As far as I can tell a bus seems the only option. Anyone know how long the bus would take? Or the cost of a taxi?

Trying to figure out if it's worth heading out there on my last day in HK as I will be limited on time.

I wouldn't recommend Aberdeen as it's pretty residential and the only "attractions" (old boats in the harbour and a floating restaurant) are pretty unexciting. That being said, getting to Aberdeen is much quicker than getting to Stanley from Central.

As for Stanley, it's a good change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Central, although I don't find the market that exciting. Murray House is quite nice and supposedly has a good museum inside, although I've never been to the museum. I believe the 6, 6A, 6X, 66 & 260 all leave from the bus terminus under Exchange Square and head out to Stanley, with 6X & 260 being express routes.

6 and 66 go over Wong Ngai Chung Gap, with the more exciting ride and interesting scenery. 6 goes to Stanley Market while 66 goes to Ma Hang (closer to Murray House); for tourists, either is fine.

6A, 6X and 260 take the Aberdeen Tunnel, with 260 taking Gloucester Road to bypassing Wanchai as well. The scenery is not that bad either, passing through Deep Water Bay.

I'll say all the buses take about 45 minutes. Taxi about half an hour. It's about 16km, so taxi fare about HK$120.

Thank you both, might look to take the bus to Stanley then if the route is quite scenic. Having visited KG a few times now I am just looking for different things to do and I have not been to either Aberdeen or Stanley yet they are frequently recommended as things to see/do when visiting HK.

Yeah, the ride is quite nice. One of the times I went to Stanley was back in 2001 with a GF who'd never been to Asia before. It was absolutely pouring rain and we immediately got back on another bus when we arrived in Stanley but she enjoyed the winding ride immensely.

A few months back a whole bunch of my extended family came over, and I took them on the 15 bus up to The Peak, and sat them on the front part of the upper deck. They were praying all the way up there, very funny.

I will rate this according the order of excitement (from high to low)

14 (Sai Wan Ho - Stanley) Double the fun if you are on an non-Air Conditioned bus a decade before.
6 / 66 (Central - Stanley)
15 (Cetral - Peak)
6A / 6X (Central - Stanley)
260 (Central - Stanley Express) Because no double decker fun

i think the fun part is between shek o road and tai tam so #9 isnt very close.

you sure with #14 up there? then i'd rank

#14;
#15/#15B (Peak-central/tin hau);
#9
#6, 6A,6X (central-Stanley through wong nai chung gap)
#260/260X (central-stanley through tunnel)

i might just swap 14 with the 15s. #14 is pretty flat...

The 6A and 6X go through the tunnel, not over Wong Nai Chung. The 66 also goes over Wong Nai Chung.

The maritime museum in Murray House is small, but good. Worth about an hour or so of time.

I have taken the 6 bus out to Stanley Market a few times when I have visted HK. I found the ride to be scenic. The market isn't that great, but I found a few deals in the past. If you are looking for a better change of pace from Central, I always like going to one of the islands instead.
