Bonus. You earn Base points based directly on eligible folio charges at a Hilton family hotel. Any points from any other source are bonus points.

Per the Surpass AmEx T&C:

"You will receive 9 HHonors bonus points for each U.S. dollar of Eligible Spending on the Card at any Hilton Worldwide hotel (excluding Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare purchases and package sales). You will receive 6 HHonors bonus points for each U.S. dollar of Eligible Spending at the following categories of merchants, excluding warehouse clubs and superstores: supermarkets; drug stores; stand-alone gas stations; and home telephone, wireless, cable, satellite TV and internet service providers. You will receive 3 HHonors bonus points for each U.S. dollar of all other Eligible Spending. "

I do not recall a true HH base point promotion. Base points are only earned by spending $$$ in a property.

Base points can ONLY be earned via hotel folio charges. Taxes and service charges are NOT eligible for base points.

Anything else (VIP points, pts+pts, Amex or Visa points, promo double points, etc) are bonus points and don't count for base point or towards VIP status.
