In 2009, I was sent a card showing Diamond status good till 3/2014.
Wondering if it was a mistake, I called and asked if the date on the card was accurate. I was told it was and that it was due to being a member since '87 and a long time Diamond.
Doesn't really make a difference to me as I'm sure I'll continue to earn it each year anyway.

I reckon a brand as big as Hilton should also consider number of properties stayed at as well as looking at nights/points/stays.
For example, if someone stays at 50 different properties they should be given some sort of recognition.
Thoughts?

Hilton doesn't have to be creative. Just copy the basic format that Marriott offers:
Must achieve all three thresholds for Marriott:
* Lifetime Platinum - 12 years / 2.0 Million Base Pts / 1,000 nights
* Lifetime Gold - 12 years / 1.6 Million Base Pts / 800 nights
* Lifetime Silver - 12 years / 1.2 Million / 600 nights
Platinum in Marriott is 75 nights per year over 12 years would be 900 nights. For Hilton to mimic their status I would expect a 12 year span requiring at least 800 nights because Diamond is renewed at 60 nights (60*12=720).
Personally, since most of my stays are only 100-150 per night, I would hope HHonors would make the membership length set but offer various ways to achieve lifetime status using either nights or base points. If they'd set a similar 2.0 Million Base Points, equivalent to 200,000 USD - I would need closer to 1500-2000 nights to achieve lifetime diamond.
All just wishful thinking, I'm not holding my breath for Hilton to come around.

I have been a HH Diamond now for 19 consequetive years. In all those years I have only received a special gift from HH twice. About 5 years ago I received a email from HH offering a choice of 4 or 5 gifts. I choose a 4 gigabyte Apple iPod. The following year I received the same offer and choose the Apple iPod again becuase it was a new design and 8 gigabytes.

Absolutely, just send an email to YOU MUST BE A CONRAD'S BEST GUEST TO VIEW THIS CONTENT and state your case. I'd say a good 80% of the Diamond VIPs who apply are accepted, the only real criteria that we look for is YOU MUST BE A CONRAD'S BEST GUEST TO VIEW THIS CONTENT, so if you've got that covered, you're almost guaranteed the status!
