Thanks for the update. I'm truly torn between using my 2 free night certificates at this resort or the Waldorf Astoria Cancun. Normally, a WA would win hands down, but I'm not a fan of that Puerto Morelos beach the WA is sitting on. Tulum is much better in that regards. Not surprising to hear of kinks as that's pretty standard for a brand new resort. Kinks and teething pains take about 6 -10 months to work out depending on the hotel/resort. I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself

Are you a Diamond member? i would also like to know what are the Diamond benefits at this location....and did you receive a signature Conrad animal? I love collecting these globally from the Conrad hotels :-)

Understand on the WA and I look forward to trying that out once opened. Regarding the beach at the Conrad, it’s in nice private bay with a sand bottom so it was enjoyable to go swimming in the bay. They had some sea grass but the team worked hard to get rid of it each day. A “tractor” (may be a supply issue delay) would be most helpful but not a huge deal as one you get into the water, it’s a sand bottom.

Yes to being a Diamond member, biggest benefit was that breakfast was included and is outstanding. Yes to the free water but they told us the mini-bar was free for the entire stay (diet coke, coke, mineral water (all cans) and two 500ml waters) along with the 250ml water above the mini bar. They also have coffee, Nespresso, in the room if you like. We were not charged for the few diet cokes we had and the water. As a not, the glass bottles do have a deposit on them so it looked like the hotel did a good job to “return” them instead of throwing them out.

One other thing of note is that each “Casa” has a water refill station (like the ones at most major airports) and it’s next to an ice maker (first floor across from the elevator in each building) so we were glad we had Tervis tumblers (had them for the flights) for ice water at the pool/beach.

Regarding the Conrad animals, funny you should ask. We ask our concierge (they contact you pre-arrival) about them when we got there and he had never heard of the program. We ran into the head of Concierge and asked him about it and he didn’t know about the program either but promised he would send one to me once they get them. Not holding my breath but hopeful when they come in (or they join the program.)

Finally settled on a six night stay in mid-April: 3 on certifs and 3 on points. Wish we could have pushed it to seven nights but no dice. We plan on staying and eating at the hotel the whole time (maybe a quick trip to the archeological site). The resort has been very good on communications and this is what i've learned so far. Hope it helps in your planning:

Transportation. We scheduled this as we do not plan on needing a car. Will report back as to the service:
"We do have our luxury private transportation the cost is $170 usd one way and $340 usd round trip taxes included up to 4 guests."

Q: How does Diamond breakfast work at the property?
A:
Breakfast in included for Diamond Members 2 people per room (We are traveling with an 11 and 15 year old. I do not expect them to extend the free breakfast to 4 but some hotels have in the past, especially for kids--we will see).

Q: Are dinner reservations are necessary to dine on site?
A:
Yes, we can handle it on your arrival, a concierge will contact you prior to arrival, and will assist with reservations if necessary. (I am guessing that this is not an issue due to the low occupancy rate right now. Will report back)

Q. Are there filtered water bottle fillers on site?
A: Bottles of water you will find in the room on top of the minibar, as part of your Diamond Amenities (This bummed me out--after seeing the mountains of empty water bottles being tossed in the trash at the St Regis Punta Mita I wish that more resorts would provide filtered water stations and avoid the plastic waste. That said, we will stop on the way to the resort and buy a case of waters for the room)

More to come as any info pops up. Thanks for adding to this early thread everyone--exciting to be on the first page of what will eventually be hundreds!!

We heard their transportation was excellent but we've used another service (170 round trip, private (like theirs)) if that helps. We did get breakfast (Diamond for 2) and not sure if they extend. One morning we were presented a check on accident and the bill for two outstanding breakfast was 700 mxn (about $35 total) if that helps (they replace the bill with the 0 bill.)
We didn't have any issues with dinner reservations or walking in but it's pending how crowded the resort is. Do find out which restaurants are closed on which nights as it's most helpful to know.

One other thing of note is that each “Casa” has a water refill station (like the ones at most major airports) and it’s next to an ice maker (first floor across from the elevator in each building) so we were glad we had Tervis tumblers (had them for the flights) for ice water at the pool/beach.

I agree with Dcislander regarding the hotel has been very responsive with questions. I received an email response yesterday.

Here is more info:

- There is only 1 heated pool

- They unfortunately don't have a signature Conrad souvenir animal (yet)

- Diamond benefits are comp bottles of water, daily breakfast for 2, comp high speed internet, and a room upgrade subject to availability

Just to add, I'm a frequent traveler to Mexico - the Riviera Maya/Playa Mujeres areas specifically. I use NAST Transfers as my number one choice for private transfers and my back up is Canada Transfers. Much cheaper than using the hotel transfers as these are expensive than the standard. NAST Transfers charges $230 round trip for up to 4 people to the Conrad Tulum from CUN. For 5-7 people, it's $235 round trip. Canada Transfers is $201 round trip for up to 3 people. For 4 - 7 people, it's $212. I included the links below

This is great news!! No grocery store stop for us now. Thanks!!!

Yeah, that's exactly why I would pick the Conrad over the WA just on the beach alone. I have stayed in Puerto Morelos before (a few years ago). I was at the Hideaway at the Royalton Riviera Cancun which is next door. The water can be murky some/most of the time and that area is plagued with sargassum. That's just the way nature is over there. I'm a mermaid, so as much as I would love staying at a WA, I think I would rather have a better beach experience. I was really disappointed and let down by the PM beach

I'm so glad to hear that there are refillable water stations. I much rather bring my travel water jug vs using the small plastic bottles

My visit is going to be in late 2022, so hopefully they will have their signature Conrad animal in place by then!

That $170 you paid for private transfer round trip is a GREAT price!! I thought my recommendations had the best pricing lol. Do you mind sharing the company that you used?

Happy to share info and USA Transfers (https://www.usa-transfers.com/) Also, if they do get a small tractor, it will help them and the beach. Bring some goggles as they may or may not have some mask available to borrow but we could see fish etc. with some simple goggles.

The service we use does have a $30 option for a grocery store stop for an hour (can be less then an hour) and there is a Chderaui-Puerto Aventuras right on the way from the airport (about 15 min from the hotel) that should solve any "needs." Think U.S. supermarket with a small Walmart/Target together (more so then a Target w groceries.)

I have a stay late April and have been trying to communicate to the hotel by e-mail, but the person they told me to contact has been non-responsive. Do you have an e-mail I can contact them? Thanks.

edit: nm finally got in touch with someone, they have specific concierge that will be assigned to you for your stay

Seaweed

Reports and photos showing up on TA of mountains of seaweed on the beach. I’ve read posts that the Conrad had people raking each day but the photos looked ominous.

We’re there weeks away from traveling. Anyone on FT recently back from Tulum who can verify that the problem has gotten really bad?

At this point we won’t be canceling but it will stick to miss out on the beach.

This is discouraging. We are booked for 5 nights in May and really are looking forward to the beach. Hopefully anyone there/going in the coming weeks can keep everyone posted.

It is the Sargassam season (until August), and as such it is widely understood that it is the norm for noticeable sargassum on beaches and in the sea. It is no longer the case that picture-postcard beaches are the norm. Of course it changes rapidly, and you can still have a clear day in the middle of a bad period.
So you really need to book holidays to this location with the expectation of seaweed, and be pleasantly suprised if it isnt too bad, rather than expect none and be disappointed when it is there.
This covers the entire caribbean coast, and some sargassum blooms can stretch for 1000's of miles. There are a lot of monitoring organsiations, and even dedicated satellite montioring. Check out the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RedSargazo/ for example. Here is the summary as at today.

It is a complete mess. I am currently here and the 'bay protecting the beach from sargassum' is completely untrue. We all know this is a reality on this coastline... But sadly it is already here, and seemingly a bit early. The Conrad is woefully unprepared to deal with this situation. Despite the best efforts of many hard-working guys every day, they simply cannot keep up. Whoever is in charge has them raking and using wheelbarrows for a job that requires nothing short of a backhoe. The mounds are completely choking off the beach. And the stench is distinct.

Thanks for posting this. The beach is very important to us, so I canceled and moved to Hilton Aruba. We'll try this property out late fall after the sargassum season passes. Hopefully they can get it under control and everything else during your trip is perfect otherwise!

Just got back on a six night stay.

The Good:
Breakfast - Got 2 free Buffet all you can eat and drink. Can order special coffees just have to ask. My 10 year old was also free but had to pay for the 16yr old. So 3 free for having diamond status.
Design and Look - One of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. Similar to Hyatt Andaz in Costa Rica but bluer water. Pictures don't do this place justice.
Pools - Always open and free Cabana's at most pools empty or only a few people at them and are free.
Staff- Everyone very friendly.

The Bad:
  • Beach was only usable 3 of the days. Mounds of seaweed. They only had handful of guys with wheelbarrows cleaning it up and they could hardly put a dent in it. The last few days looks like they had given up only like 2 guys removing it. The days we could swim it was a great private beach.
  • 10% Service Charge on everything. I hate these added fees.
  • Food was very expensive for what you get. Nothing for kids really.
  • Drinks are crazy expensive along with waters I believe they were charging $11.50 for big bottles of water. Looking at $20 bucks for a mojito. Once i ordered a plain margarita and was charged for what they call the best margarita which came out to $44 bucks.
  • Diamond upgrade was to a partial overview but couldn't even see a sliver of the ocean so not sure if it was even a upgrade.
  • Internet was not great sometimes wouldn't even work at all.
