I just booked two free nights here based on two certs. I will fly into Cancun, spend 3 nights in Tulum in the town, and then 4 nights on a beach resort at the north end, and then go to the Conrad. After that, I will cross on the Playa Del Carmen ferry to Cozumel, and spend two weeks or so there relaxing and scuba diving. The Conrad looks amazing, and this is substituting for the Conrad in Thailand (which I have to now postpone for the second year in a row because of COVID travel restrictions.)

Great comments! Any thoughts on taxi cost from PdC bus station?

Calling taxis from the hotel to go to Tulum Archaelogical zone or Coba - how much might that cost per way or round trip?

EDIT: Just checked Rome2Rio which gives estimated costs. But if anyone has any first hand info, that's great!

We ended up renting a car from CUN. Avoided all of the corporate car rental agencies given the horror-stories that I’ve heard on FT. Booked with an offsite agency called “Yes Rent-a-Car” due to great reviews and they did not disappoint. Definitely nothing fancy, but they charged a decent rate ($300 for 5 days) with no haggling that included all of the Mexican-required insurance policies.

Despite what Hilton says on the website, there was no cost to valet at the hotel. We asked the concierge what it would cost to take a taxi to downtown Tulum and he said anywhere between $50 and $70 each way. If you're planning on going to Tulum, another thing to consider is parking. It is tough to find a spot in downtown Tulum. We went into Tulum for dinner one night and eventually found a lot for 250 pesos (~$12.50 USD), but it was difficult to find.

Thanks for the insight. Did look up "good rep" off brand car rentals and found a few with good rates...so just will go that route when I go. Prefer driving self when possible. And from what you say, cheaper then paying taxis.

Been to Tulum before -- in 2006, when it was still a backpacker type destination. Stayed in some <$50 place right on the beach, a self contained unit. Like, ON the beach from memory. Which sounds great, until you realize the whole room filled with sand blowing in!

Staying at the Conrad Tulum will be quite a different experience!

Did a lot of Cenote diving then..so didn't care about lodging so much. .But that's the past. Stayed at a hostel in Cancun...but travel style / purpose is different now!

Room Tour

Thanks for all the great insight as we've now booked five night in early March with HH. Looking forward to relaxing, enjoying and exploring this new "gem" in the Hilton family. Ask any questions and I'll try to find answer, if possible, when I'm there.

I found this room tour and thought is may be helpful:

I believe there are 5 pools at this resort... How many of them are heated and are there any adult-only pools?

Anyone have more info or photos on the “balcony relaxation tub” mentioned in one room description? The photo looks a bit weird like it’s almost flush with the balcony floor.

Look on Youtube for the video of the Partial Oceanview Room at the Conrad Tulum which is actually a much better visual. Think of it as like a small plunge pool. It's not flush with the balcony floor. It's deep enough for your body to be halfway immersed.

Does it have jets?

Ok, I’m back from our five night stay (using points) and I’ll answer the questions I see:

Pools: At least 5 (depending how you count maybe 7) and I don’t think any of them are true “adults only” pools. That said, there is plenty of room to spread out and some of the outer pools had very few people. The main “family” pool was the one right in the center of the resort but we walked about 100 yards to the one of the other pools and it was quieter (and had a nice breeze.)

The balcony relaxation tub is around 40 inches deep (estimate) without any jets. If you’re going soon, I would suggest filling the pool once before you use it as you may be the first person to use the tub and one guest mentioned he had some of the black stain they use on him.

The rooms, as the video shows, has the shower window exposed to the outside. It’s an interesting feature as when you’re in the shower, people could see inside. That said, it would be hard and people would really have move to specific places to see you as most of the paths etc. are hidden from view of any windows. The main path, outside the door to the room, has no view of the shower window so this concern is minor but noteworthy.

Working on our review, the property is very pretty and truly a resort but it’s new and they need to work thru some things to get to the luxury status. The food and drinks were all very well done and I would go back again (if that helps) once they sort thru some “minor” issues. I would say go, enjoy and have a great time. P.S. The bartenders at the main bar can fix just about anything ((drink names) Naked and Famous, Hanky Panky etc...) so feel free to go off the menu.

Thanks for the update. I'm truly torn between using my 2 free night certificates at this resort or the Waldorf Astoria Cancun. Normally, a WA would win hands down, but I'm not a fan of that Puerto Morelos beach the WA is sitting on. Tulum is much better in that regards. Not surprising to hear of kinks as that's pretty standard for a brand new resort. Kinks and teething pains take about 6 -10 months to work out depending on the hotel/resort. I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself

Are you a Diamond member? i would also like to know what are the Diamond benefits at this location....and did you receive a signature Conrad animal? I love collecting these globally from the Conrad hotels :-)

Finally settled on a six night stay in mid-April: 3 on certifs and 3 on points. Wish we could have pushed it to seven nights but no dice. We plan on staying and eating at the hotel the whole time (maybe a quick trip to the archeological site). The resort has been very good on communications and this is what i've learned so far. Hope it helps in your planning:

Transportation. We scheduled this as we do not plan on needing a car. Will report back as to the service:
"We do have our luxury private transportation the cost is $170 usd one way and $340 usd round trip taxes included up to 4 guests."

Q: How does Diamond breakfast work at the property?
A:
Breakfast in included for Diamond Members 2 people per room (We are traveling with an 11 and 15 year old. I do not expect them to extend the free breakfast to 4 but some hotels have in the past, especially for kids--we will see).

Q: Are dinner reservations are necessary to dine on site?
A:
Yes, we can handle it on your arrival, a concierge will contact you prior to arrival, and will assist with reservations if necessary. (I am guessing that this is not an issue due to the low occupancy rate right now. Will report back)

Q. Are there filtered water bottle fillers on site?
A: Bottles of water you will find in the room on top of the minibar, as part of your Diamond Amenities (This bummed me out--after seeing the mountains of empty water bottles being tossed in the trash at the St Regis Punta Mita I wish that more resorts would provide filtered water stations and avoid the plastic waste. That said, we will stop on the way to the resort and buy a case of waters for the room)

More to come as any info pops up. Thanks for adding to this early thread everyone--exciting to be on the first page of what will eventually be hundreds!!

Understand on the WA and I look forward to trying that out once opened. Regarding the beach at the Conrad, it’s in nice private bay with a sand bottom so it was enjoyable to go swimming in the bay. They had some sea grass but the team worked hard to get rid of it each day. A “tractor” (may be a supply issue delay) would be most helpful but not a huge deal as one you get into the water, it’s a sand bottom.

Yes to being a Diamond member, biggest benefit was that breakfast was included and is outstanding. Yes to the free water but they told us the mini-bar was free for the entire stay (diet coke, coke, mineral water (all cans) and two 500ml waters) along with the 250ml water above the mini bar. They also have coffee, Nespresso, in the room if you like. We were not charged for the few diet cokes we had and the water. As a not, the glass bottles do have a deposit on them so it looked like the hotel did a good job to “return” them instead of throwing them out.

One other thing of not is that each “Casa” has a water refill station (like the ones at most major airports) and it’s next to an ice maker (first floor across from the elevator in each building) so we were glad we had Tervis tumblers (had them for the flights) for ice water at the pool/beach.

Regarding the Conrad animals, funny you should ask. We ask our concierge (they contact you pre-arrival) about them when we got there and he had never heard of the program. We ran into the head of Concierge and asked him about it and he didn’t know about the program either but promised he would send one to me once they get them. Not holding my breath but hopeful when they come in (or they join the program.)
