Roll over nights question

Hoping someone might be able to help with a questions i have...

Say for example i ended up at 120 nights in 2018 which means 60 nights will be carried over to 2019, automatically securing Diamond status for 2020, does that mean any nights i stay now in 2019 will be rolled over for 2020? so say i stayed only 40 nights in 2019, will that mean i only need 20 in 2020 to keep diamond for 2021?

Thanks

Yes, that is exactly right.

Also, if you rolled over 60 nights from 2018 into 2019, there is no benefit (status wise) of staying more than 60 nights in 2019 because only those 60 will roll over into 2020.

Thanks kkong42. I actually asked because it makes me think this would be a good opportunity not to be so loyal to hilton for a year.

Here are the rules from Hilton website:

Hilton Rollover Nights FAQ

9. How can I find out how many elite rollover nights will apply to the next status year?

To calculate the number of elite rollover nights you have achieved to-date, you can apply the following formula:

Total qualifying nights at year end (inclusive of rollover from prior year) any elite rollover nights from the previous year (now expired) qualifying nights needed to renew your current elite status tier = elite rollover nights for next year.

Example: You rolled over 5 nights from 2018, you stayed 45 nights in 2019 and gained Gold Status. The calculation for 2019 rollover nights would be as follows: 5 rollover nights from 2018 + 45 nights from stays in 2019 40 nights needed for Gold 5 rollover nights from 2018 (now expired) = 5 elite rollover nights into 2020

These elite rollover nights will be automatically calculated for you and applied to your member account at the beginning of the next calendar year no action is required from you.

Diamond members with 120+ nights within a calendar year will rollover 60 nights into the new year, as 60 nights will ensure you maintain your Diamond status for another year.
10. For how long are my elite rollover nights valid and when can I apply them toward status? What happened to my elite rollover nights from last year?

Elite rollover nights are only valid for the next calendar year and expire thereafter. Elite rollover nights cannot be reserved and applied to a second, third year or subsequent year.

Example: You rolled over 10 nights from 2018, you stayed 20 nights in 2019 and gained Silver status. The calculation for 2019 rollover nights would be as follows: 10 rollover nights from 2018 + 20 nights from stays in 2019 10 nights needed for Silver 10 rollover nights from 2018 (now expired) = 10 elite rollover nights into 2020Elite rollover nights must be used in the following calendar year from when they were earned. In this example, the 10 elite rollover nights from 2018 must be used in 2019 and cannot be applied to the 2020 calendar year.
11. How many elite rollover nights can I carry over into the next calendar year? T

here is no limit; however, you'll only roll over nights in excess of those needed to earn your elite status level in a calendar year.

While there is no limit, Diamond members with 120+ nights will only see 60 rollover nights in their trackers, because only 60 rollover nights are needed to ensure you maintain your Diamond status for another year.

Out of interest, does anyone know if my current 30 nights this year will be carried over to next year as I have qualified for Diamond next year thanks to a status match? I ask as 30 night from now to March 2021 is possible for me to hit, whilst 60 in a year is not.

No, I don't believe so, as rollover only applies once you have achieved the number of nights required to renew your current tier (your current tier is diamond, so you need more than 60 nights to roll any over to next year). For rollover you need to apply the formula:
Total qualifying nights at year end (inclusive of rollover from prior year) — any elite rollover nights from the previous year (now expired) — qualifying nights needed to renew your current elite status tier = elite rollover nights for next year.
In your case:
30 - 0 - 60 = 0 rollover nights.

Zero nights will roll over.

However, if during 2020 you stay 30 nights, you would qualify for Silver status with 10 nights, and 20 nights would roll over to 2021. Then in 2021 you would have a nice head start towards recovering Gold or Diamond, yet you would still be Diamond until 31 March 2021.

Thanks for both your help!

Wonder if someone can help me:

Rolled over 22 nights from 2018 to 2019
Stayed 46 nights in 2019 (so total of 68 nights Inc roll over for 2019)
Stayed 2 nights in 2020

Current stay credits: 2 nights

Currently stating zero rolled over nights. Is this because you have to reach 60 nights in a year to earn rollover nights?

Yes, see the formula above. You only stayed 46 nights in 2019; when the formula is applied there is nothing to rollover.

Does anyone know how rollover nights work when you have received status through a credit card? The credit card I use was cancelled after I enjoyed Diamond for 5 years despite only ~30 nights/year. When it was cancelled, they gave us status through March 21. Including 2018 rollover nights, I had 56 nights in 2019, and now my rollover nights are zero, but I am still diamond thanks to the credit card.

I was working under the assumption that my 2019 nights would be rolled over to help me keep status in 2021.

Although there is no reason to stay more than 120 nights per year for yearly status, since maximum 60 nights would rollover, it would be wise by meaning of lifetime status because every stayed(not rollover) night will count towards it.

You would only have 2019 nights rollover to 2020 if you stayed more than 60 nights in 2019. You only had 56 nights. See the formula above.
I am a little confused about whether or not you requalified for diamond through your credit card for 2020. If your status only lasts thru March of 2020, then it sounds like you did not requalify and your status will drop to gold on April 1.

Yes, when the credit card cancelled, they said all current Diamond members would keep their status until March 2021. Hence, I am a bit unsure as to why I have not received 32 nights rollover, similar to receiving the rollover nights last year. Hilton are not being very helpful on this via email.

So apparently you had 92 nights in 2018, which would account for 32 rollover nights in 2019. If you only had 56 nights in 2019, then you will not have any rollover nights for 2020.
