Arrow DoubleTree by Hilton Wellington {NZL}

Any FT reviews of this property, seems a new addition to Hilton in July 2018.

Planning a 9 nights stay in WLG in August, torn between this property (gold, probably taking on diamond challenge) and the Intercontinental (no status).

According to the official website, self parking is not available, and valet is NZD45 per night, any idea if there are all day/night parking available nearby and the rates?

I will be there in a week and will post a review.

Intercontinental is an older hotel but they are basically beside each other.

If you are gold, I am sure you will get breakfast at the DT so that may be worth it. That said, CBD Wellington has some fantastic cafe's for breakfast within walking distance.

Plus street parking is free after 5pm. Generally a better option than hotel parking.

I stayed there last Saturday to Tuesday. [days 14-17 of operations]. Great staff and attitude, a lot of final touches going on [generally behind the scenes], As a Diamond, was given full breakfast...very pleasant; dinner twice in the Spring restaurant...very tasty and comparable with NZ local restaurants. It was the T&G building and may have been unoccupied for a while. Very smart foyer [small], wonderful original elevators, and smart appearance. Room photos in next post.

Exterior. My room was at the centre top, with the railing in front.

Stairs to first floor [Spring Restaurant]

Room 706

Spacious bed area

Large windows

Small narrow desk - a little cramped with tea kettle and tea bag box on the side. Suggested that a small table [like the bedside table] placed beside the tv unit could take these, and make the desk a suitable and easily usable work space.

PeterBruce--thanks for the great pix. The Intercontinental is an excellent property--this will make choosing where to stay in Wellington next time very difficult.

Great service in the DT

The Double Tree Hilton also left in the room

Bottle of Wine
chocolate truffles dessert
2 complimentary drinks for the bar
plus the free cookie

only silver although it was the 2nd stay within a fortnight of opening

ps the room had a cute little balcony overlooking Lambton Quay ...

Staying here this week. Overall I am really glad that we finally have a Hilton property in Wellington.

Positives:
  • They have done an amazing job renovating that old building while still keeping the charm.
  • Loved the wooden doors on the old elevators.
  • Got one level upgrade and 3 complimentary drink vouchers for 3 nights.
  • Being a diamond, I was given the full buffet breakfast, but ordering from Ala carte menu was extra.
Not so Positive:
  • Gym was tiny. Super tiny - you can barely fit 3 people in there.
  • Room I had was overlooking into the office cubicles next door.
  • Amenities weren't replaced in bathroom and some issues with the room service. But I believe this will get much better with time. Staff was super nice and helpful.
  • No turn down service
I guess it will be a hard decision between Doubletree and Sofitel.

Looking forward to your review! Any ideas if parking is easily and readily available around the property especially for overnight parking?

Thanks for sharing the pictures. No upgrades to suite for diamond?

Thanks for sharing, was there any swimming pool by any chance?

No pool. In their defence it's a very small property; they have made best use of it.

Wellington CBD usually clears out shortly after 5pm.

I've never had an issue the many times I have been there.

Not true, have had it at the DT in KL and also Johor Baru, in fact the cookie came to being as part of the turn down service back in 1986!

I booked the simplest room available. This is a Deluxe room - probably the biggest and best of those by location.

Suited me!

A room is a room [often for me]!
