They have a "high roller" VIP lounge next to (left of) the main check-in desk, with concierges and free self-serve drinks - Diamond card gets you in there. Those agents will check you in, so you need not stand in the lobby line. LVH folios are not available online after you leave, so be sure to get yours (from them also if the lines are long) in case the double-tax points discount bug is still in effect.

Las Vegas, 4 mini-reviews: Hampton, Grand Vacations on the Strip, Hilton, Doubletree
Just did a mattress run of four Las Vegas properties, staying one night each at the four hotels while popping in and out of the Mirage to hang out with my brother and friends who were in town from the East Coast. I chose the four because they offered the lowest rates (about $80-90, with AAA discount) for the nights I was there.
FWIW, here are brief impressions and experiences. Two things I'll flag from the start: 1) The rooms seemed to be all about the same size, which was perfectly adequate for me. 2) None are located near the heart of the strip, so they aren't that convenient if you want to be in the heart of the action.
Anyway, in order of preference:
Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas Strip. Very nice, easy check-in with no wait. Much more of a family place (or possibly one to stay on business) rather than a party/gambling place for those so inclined (which I was not). Nice array of food choices downstairs in a store/counter area. (Though no free breakfast as an HH Diamond, which didn't matter to me under the circumstances.) I liked this best because the room seemed slightly better than the rest, the food choices availability, and the quiet of the place.
Doubletree Club, Las Vegas Airport. Nice, basic place with a free shuttle to the airport and a decent breakfast. Walls seemed a bit thin in terms of noise from next door, but after I put in ear plugs to sleep that was no problem.
Hampton Inn Tropicana. No idea why this place has the name Tropicana in it. Anyway, it was fine EXCEPT for my room (600) being right next door to a very loud ice machine. Even with ear plugs, it interrupted my sleep.
Hilton Las Vegas. Because I go into more detail and am pretty critical, I posted this at the thread for this property. Here's the link:

The HGI Las Vegas Strip South is also a decent stay. I prefer the rooms at the Doubletree but the breakfast at the HGI. But the Doubletree definitely has a more recent remodel.

HHonors Las Vegas Recommendation?
I'm going to Vegas this fall (cheap airline tix already purchased). Any recommendations on which Hilton Honors property to stay at and or best value either using points or miles is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion the best deal IF YOU ARE A DIAMOND HHONORS is Las Vegas Hilton. You have a VIP check-in room set as a hospitality suite, therefore no check-in line and snacks/champagne upon check-in.
The rooms are very cheap (you can find $39-$49/room) and you get upgraded to a nicer room.
Best of all, you have 2 breakfast buffet vouchers - which are especially good for the lavist champagne brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Stay away from the ES on Swenson. The property is nice, but any savings in room rate will be spent on taxis. A taxi to the strip is $10-15. The LV Hilton sits right on the monorail and I've read great things about it.

Where do I sign up for those room rates? The cheapest rate I can find at either HHonors or the hotels own site is a AAA rate of $89.95 for a standard King bed room.

It's too early to get a deal in Vegas for the Fall. Best rates are 2 months or less in advance. The rate you're finding now is rack rate for the dates you want. Also, checkout lvhilton.com for rates at the Las Vegas Hilton- sometimes far less than Hilton.com. I'm staying at the LV Hilton next week and the rate for Sun-Tues is $37.46/night using the Visa 25% off sale. The LV Hilton, while not an iconic new Vegas hotel is fine for the price and perks: The upgraded rooms are spacious, with big flat screens and marble bathrooms. The free breakfast and spa are nice perks for HH Golds and Diamonds.

Las Vegas Hiltons
Are any of the Vegas Hilton resorts any good? I don't even understand the Hilton at the Flamingo - is that connected to the flamingo?
I was thinking about burning my Hilton certs in Vegas but not sure if any of the Hiltons down there are worth it.
Additional info: this is a b-day gift for my GF who has never been to Vegas (since she has been over 21) so I want to show her a good time but the tickets are costing me over 1k already.
Thanks for the help.

The Flamingo ceased to be part of the Hilton chain years ago.
It is now just "The Flamingo"; not "The Flamingo Hilton"
It is just the Hilton Las Vegas (formerly known as the International Hotel where Elvis used to perform) which is way off strip but near the convention centre and its right on the monorail. It is very old and unless you are a Star Trek fan, there is unlikely to be anything of interest around. For a first timer in Las Vegas, you want to be on the Strip to soak up the atmosphere.
Hotels on the strip where the life is are not that expensive. Try for the Monte Carlo Hotel or even the Imperial Gardens or Harrahs. You are right in the middle of strip and in the thick of the action for shops, bars, shows, etc. You can walk everywhere. Taxi fares can add-up in the constant bad traffic on the strip and the monorail is not cheap.
Circus Circus and Stratoshere will be cheap but are too far north. Excalibur and Luxor are also fairly cheap but at the very south end of the strip.

Was very positively surprised on my first ever visit to the Hilton last weekend - went to see Chicago (the band - sadly without Bill Champlin) but ended up spending way more time there than anticipated!
They seem to focus on convention business - a large facility. The theater (is this the same one Elvis used to perform in??) is pretty decent size and I've noticed some decent headliners there from time to time. The casino has a very friendly atmosphere and contrary to what I expected is actually in good shape and very clean. The sportsbook is very large and probably the best one I've seen in Vegas - would love to be there during a large event! There are a couple of decent-looking restaurants too, we had a chinese which was very agreeable.
With the monorail station in-house I actually wouldn't hesitate staying there (although haven't seen their rooms/suites) from a practical perspective. From what I've seen, the Hilton could serve well as a good alternative to South Strip properties and certainly rates above the low-end mid-strip hotels/resorts.
Enjoy Vegas! It's hard not to..

Thank you all for the fantastic feedback. I'll check those other threads. This is the hilton at the flamingo i was talking about:
http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hote...evada/index.do
Its not a part of the flamingo but its on the property. I might have to call because I'm not sure what exactly that means i.e. how are the affiliated. Can i hang out at the pool at the flamingo etc.
