[ARCHIVE to 2014] DISCUSSION for Hilton Honors Hotels in Nevada, USA {US-NV}
 

Will be in Las Vegas for a few days in October. Any suggestions on which of the Hiltons to stay at/avoid? Not a big gambler (except with the show girls).

SMTM:

I've only stayed at the Flamingo Hilton so far but was very happy with it with one exception (having to do with a show). Anyway, a quick run down:

- As a Gold VIP, I got a mid-high floor (20th) with a pool view, (very nice view, pool area is great!) for price of low-end room.

- Room was good

- Excellent spa. My mom & I got massages and if your an HHonors VIP or you get a Player's Club card (free) you save 10% or 20% (I forget) off spa services (hey, it helps cover the tip!) What a treat! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

- Decent breakfast buffet and good coffee shop

- Excellent service with the exception of getting seated at Forever Plaid. Seated right by the door (could still hear the slots!) and the waitress ignored us when it came to drinks. Complained to an asst. manager who took the complaint but didn't give me any comps for the trouble (show wasn't comped, not even a fruit basket!)
All other service people were fabulous!

- Beautiful hotel and fabulous location in the center of the Strip across from Caesar's & Mirage

- You don't have to walk through the entire casino to get to your room (had to do this at MGM, was a nightmare)

Even if you're not a big gambler, I loved playing Blackjack there (mostly $1, 3 & 5 tables) If you like showgirls, I was there last Oct. and the Radio City Rocketts show is there which you'll probably like.

Even with the 1 problem I had there, I would stay there again. Have a great time, I'm going to try to get out there again this fall!

I always stay at the Las Vegas Hilton....Especially since the Star Trek Exhibit was installed.

As long as you drive, being off the strip (next to the convention center) is no problem, and I like the way the casino is set-up.

The rooms are plain but very roomy, and the service is excellent.

The Hilton Vacation Club (time share)is right behind the Flamingo. You can rent a one bedroom resort unit with all the home convenience built-in and a nice jet jacuzzi bathtub. If will cost you a few extra bucks. But what's money in Vegas. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Paris Paris should be open by October as well. Brand new Hilton to check out! By the way, last time I was in Vegas and playing at the Las Vegas Hilton (the Star Trek experience is a lot of fun by the way), the pit boss asked me if I wanted a Player Comp card. I declined at the time because I was only go to play another half hour there but asked if I could get some HHonors points. He told me that I could talk to VIP services and they could be able to do something for me. Unfortunately I didnt have time to check it out, but maybe someone else can try.

My ranking order:

1. Flamingo: best upgrades (to mini-suites), right on the strip so you can walk to all the nightclub/show and restaurant attractions, GREAT pool.

2. LV Hilton: Always seem to end up here due to proximity to Convention center. It's ok, but have only been upgraded to regular rooms on upper floors.

3. Bally's. Yech. Small rooms, upgrades are worthless (to mid-upper floors), and a long walk to the strip across a fountain that smells like a swamp. I expect more from a Hilton property...

My $.02

Nicest Hilton property is the Vacation Club. Great suites, privacy, amenities, no casino drone or hassles. The Flamingo is right next door and you have easy access for gambling, the pool, whatever. If I remember right, you're also given guest priviliges at the Flamingo.

Staying at the Flamingo was pretty lame, with your basic "just sleep in it" room. Did not upgrade. Wouldn't stay there again.

Haven't stayed at the LV Hilton, but it is a true convention hotel. If you're into that, fine, but you can do better!

My favorite LV haunt is the Hard Rock. At least play a bit in the Casino when you visit. What a difference!

The hard rock is interesting, but the clientel is YOUNG. They must have a policy of asking for ID from anyone under 40, because I ALWAYS get carded at the craps table there. And it is kind of out of the way.

My favorite of ALL vegas hotels is still the Luxor. But I'm a history buff, even if its shmaltzy, vegas-style history. And its nice and close to the airport for that quick getaway http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif!!!

I loved Luxor too!! Everyone was great and the room was pretty cool. It's only drawback is being at the end of the strip. Close to LAS but far from everything else w/ no car. I know about the trolleys, but they can be sloooowww.

You're sounding kind of old there. I'm 44, but much prefer the crowd at Hard Rock compared to most of the other casinos. Haven't ever seen a Q-Tip (translated gray haired one) at HRH, but they're all over the Strip.

Ok, we're totally omni now, but I hope that gray is still far away for me. See the rogue's gallery for a recent photo!

Also, was at the Hard Rock and on a HOT STREAK when all sorts of cameras and lights and boom mikes showed up at my craps table. It was a bunch of kids from the MTV program called "Road Rules," a soap opera disguised as reality prorgamming. Anyway, the stickman actually INSISTED that the shooter pass the dice (with all bets on) to one of the punks from the show (due to "an arrangement with the producers of the show.") The kid immediately throws a seven. Gets to keep the dice (!) and throws a point of six then another seven. Cost me about $300 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif .

I know, I know, I should have left the table with all the commotion, and the seven could have come anyway, but then again... Anyway, decided then and there that any casino willing to change table rules for MTV didn't deserve my business. I'm no high stakes gambler by any means, and I pride myself on not being a sore loser, but that really ticked me off...

I'll get us back on topic!!! AND SORRY THIS IS GOING VERY LLLOOONNNGGG!!!

I have stayed at three Hilton properties in Vegas. My choices (they are in line with Matt's and others http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

1. Flamingo: A classic hotel and it's great to get upgraded to the top floor and wake up to that great view of the Vegas strip!!! It's somewhat of a confusing walk to/from the elevators to the strip, but it helps the Flamingo's right on the strip so I can stagger back to my room in the middle of the night and not get lost!!!

2. Las vegas HIlton: A little bit too big and out of the way. BUT: if you don't have a car: there is a little shuttle bus that costs a dollar or dollar fifty that takes you to the strip every 45 minutes or half hour. I don't remember the schedule. And you are right NJDavid: the best thing about that Hilton is that Star Trek Experience! I'm trying to get my friend Elena to come to Vegas, if we only go and spend our time there!

3. Bally's. Wasn't this the OLD MGM GRAND hotel? The place looks very tried. But if you don't mind spending 50 bucks it has the best brunch in town. Lobster, Salmon, cavier (though it's took salty for me) ALl the champagn (SP> Yes JAWS!) you want. Reservations are a must... and do it before you go to Vegas!!!!

Their show Jubilee is ok (NO BIG BEAUTIFUL CATS at Mirage) but I almost got thrown out of the club when the skit for Titanic came on and I saw these people singing and dancing "Here we go on a great ship" and I said "and they're all going to sink" then could not stop laughing (NO! I was not drinking, only PEPSI!) Laughing loud enough that other guys started laughing and then security came over and told us to keep it down. It just seemed too funny... and so Vegas to make a happy dance show out of the sinking of Titanic!

Have NOT been to the Hard ROck Casino. I get very turned off by theme restaurants like that so I never had a desire for the casino.

OMNI to MATT: You look younger than that pix suggests, you could be on MTV with no problem. Did they film you at the table? NOrmally, they ask you to sign a release to use your image on their dumb shows (I'm more Nashville Network and VH ONe kind of guy myself) They film a lot around Times Square and I get very *&*&^#ED if their teenaged camera people tell me I can't walk into my regular subway entrance because MTV's filming something unless I sign a release. I just worked 10 hours and they want me to sign a piece of paper to talk into MY SUBWAY entrance. SO I have to walk around the block, using foul language all the way.

Actually, my favorite cable network is Cartoon Network! CATMAN

Since mention has been made here of HiltonGrand Vacations Club behind the Flamingo, I am an owner there and they have an owner referral program going on through 1999. Anyone willing to take the 90-min. timeshare tour can get a 2-night package for $118 (you will receive $60 in casino chips plus a $25 food credit at the Flamingo, bringing your out of pocket to $33 for 2 nights, available on weekends too); if there is space available in the timeshare resort, they will try to book you there; otherwise you will get your choice of Flamingo, LV Hilton or Bally's. Right now they are trying to sell units at the resort under construction at LV Hilton. You need to be referred by an owner; anyone who's interested can e-mail me with your name & phone number. HGVC will call you to set up a date to stay in Vegas and tour the resort...I receive 5000 HHonors points for each couple that tours..

Which of the two Hiltons in Reno would anyone suggest? The Flamingo or the Casino Resort? I have a room at the Casino Resort in June for only $39.00 (half price), but is it worth it? That seems like an awful low rate for any Hilton, and it makes me wonder about the hotel. I haven't been to Reno in years and would like some input on these two hotels.

The Flamingo Hilton is in downtown Reno. The Reno Hilton is away from the downtown. I have stayed at the Reno Hilton and it is a nice hotel. I suspect that you are staying on a weekday - rates are usually quite low on weekdays, and I think that the Reno Hilton has more room rate specials.

If flying in, you might need a rental car at the Reno Hiton.

If you like to casino hop, then the Flamingo Hilton with its central location amidst several casinos is a better choice.
