At the LV Hilton they told me I did not need to be a guest (that was a few months ago). Bally's (a couple of weeks ago) asked me for my room number.

Bally's took my Hilton Gold card and room number on Dec. 22, 2003. They did the same for the Diamond couple in line in front of me. Paris won't accept Hilton Gold. Enjoy your stay! It wasn't crowded there last week, so we could have the gym and spa to ourselves in the afternoons!

Horrible stay at LV Hilton, Paris was better

Just got back from our holiday stay in Las Vegas. No, we didn’t see Brittney as her chapel was up the road from ours. We stayed at Mandalay Resort Group and Park Place properties in addition to Harrah’s.

In Las Vegas, HHonors member can accrue points at most of the Park Place properties: Bally’s, Flamingo, Las Vegas Hilton, Paris Las Vegas and Flamingo. No points from Caesars Palace. People have reported mixed reviews when it comes to HHonors benes like upgrades, breakfasts etc.

Here’s a quick rundown if you don’t want to read about our tales of woe:

Paris
  • Gold & Diamond HHonors probably can use the VIP room to check-in/out depending on the VIP rep you get (as in do they even know what HHonors is)
  • Gold & Diamonds are entitled to a Petite Suite upgrade
  • No word on breakfast
  • Park Place Connection coupon booklets available for the asking, PPC membership not required
  • People smoked everywhere but I couldn’t tell in many spots because the air handlers/filters worked well

LV Hilton
  • Dedicated HHonors line at registration desk
  • Gold & Diamonds get free breakfast in lounge
  • Full valet = no parking even for registered guests
  • Hotel employee admits to not permitting family to stay there
  • 1 fresh outfit + 1 walk down to front lobby and back to room = you smell like an ashtray
  • Faster than Paris at posting stays
  • Unless you have to be there for a convention (CES?) don’t bother

Paris Las Vegas

We stayed at Paris first and this was my second visit to the hotel. I wanted to use the airport check-in but they wanted to just go to the hotel (we were coming from another hotel). So we drove into the valet area only to be told they are doing “security checks” which was nothing more than a security guard glancing at a photo ID and peering into the cargo area of the rental. He didn’t even ask if we were staying at the hotel. Baggage handling here is like many other hotels in Vegas, taken from your car and loaded onto a trolley (tip the handler), you’re issued a ticket and you go get checked in while your bags are taken to a holding area. When you get to your room, you call down for your bags and they are brought up (tip that handler). It’s the reverse when checking out. Pretty much it’s never the same person who gets your bags and then delivers them.\

Walk into the registration lobby and OMG look at the crowd in line! I’m only HHonors Gold but I figure there has to be some sort of HHonors area or something. No dice. There’s a position marked for “Invited Guests” which I assumed to mean casino guests. Then there’s the little VIP room across from the registration desk. I sent my SO into the room whilst I stood in line so that she could see we could check in there (I think this was mentioned here on FT). She came out and walked over to the “Invited Guests” line as directed by a VIP room agent. That shaved about 45 minutes of standing in line.

Check in was smooth but alas when we got to our room, it was far from the Premium View that I requested and paid a deposit for. I called guest services and discovered that we were indeed in a standard, non-view room. That’s when Jody mentioned something interesting: at Paris, Gold and Diamond are entitled to an automatic Petite Suite or better upgrade, if available! hmmmmmm He apologized for the room screw up and said we could either take a Petite on the 4th floor or wait until the next day, move to a “much better room” and get a lowered rate for our current room. We did the latter and indeed, they transferred us to a much better room with a view of the Bellagio fountains and Eiffel Tower. I asked him about check-in/out and he confirmed that Gold or Diamonds should be able to use the VIP room.

Las Vegas Hilton

Since we were getting married on Dec 31 we figured the Ringing in the Revelry package at LV Hilton would be a good value. The package included tickets to the New Year’s party (buffet dinner, band, dancing), tickets to the brunch on New Year’s day and tickets to the fireworks viewing area. The rate for this was the same as the standard room rate for the same two days so it was essentially free. And you know the saying: You get what you pay for.

First, understand that some friends (not an HHonors member nor a gambler) had already checked in on Dec 27 and got a very nice room. We picked up our final guest at the airport and used the airport check-in desk. There we were told we were getting upgraded rooms in the Central Tower. I don’t think so. We had two rooms and the first turned out to be okay, not good, just okay. The other room (our room) was, well, something you’d expect to see in an oldies movie about 1960s Vegas! I believe my sweetie put it best when we went to complain to the front desk, “I wouldn’t even let my dog sleep in that room!” Yes, it was that bad. Worn, dirty carpet; frayed bedspread; cracked, discolored tile (as in is it mauve or tan?); dirty bathtub and the room REEKED like one of those cigarrette butt cans!!

So then we were given “suite connector” rooms in the East Tower on a low floor. The rooms were more spacious and were indeed upgraded compared to the previous rooms. Heck, the tubs were clean which was a bonus.

The registration desk has signs designating check-in positions for Invited Casino Guests and Hilton Honors (sic) guests. However, these positions had other signs designating them to be used by Casino Party Guests only. Also, there was a sign saying that Gold and Diamond members do indeed get complementary continental breakfast in the Crystal Lounge. When I asked about breakfast for the following morning, the desk clerk told me to just show my card for me and my guests. Skeptical, I checked with a restaurant manager who indeed said a Gold or Diamond card is the only thing needed but that breakfast was moved from the Crystal Lounge to the Nightclub due to a special party.

The good thing about just showing my card for breakfast? I could get the 6 of us in to eat. The bad? Ever try to eat off of a table the size of a serving platter? Ever try to get SIX people to fit at 3 of these tables? The UGLY? They weren’t replenishing food (at 9am) and when some people complained about the picked-over bagels and lack of any more fruit, a hotel employee said she would have to get permission to bring out more food!

That night, we returned to the hotel and the “Valet Full” sign was lit up. Now mind you, every hotel we stayed at displayed a similar sign but registered guests were ALWAYS still allowed to use the valet. Not here. A security guard waived us to another lane which we assumed would be the lane for hotel guests. How wrong we were! So we made an orbit but this time I pulled up right to the guard:

Guard: Sorry folks, the valet is full. You’ll have to park in the garage <pointing> over there.

The New Mrs Jonesing: It’s full even to us? We’re hotel guests!

G: Sorry, ma’am, but what can I say? We only have 800 (?) spaces and 3 times that many people staying here right now.

Mrs: Well I wish I had known that before staying at this crap a** hotel! This place is the worst!

G: <laughing> I know how you fee! I make really good money to work here but when my family and friends come to visit, I would NEVER ever let them stay here!

Mrs: ...? I wish we had talked to you before checking in here then!

The other BIG problem centers around the NYE celebrations. Now we knew nothing about these measures until after we checked in and were given a letter from Julius Kazen, VP Hotel Operations. First they shut down the East and Central elevators from 10pm-1am. So if you wanted to go to see the fireworks, you had better take your coat to the party. Second since there was more that one NYE party going on (Hotel part, Casino party etc) many people were very confused about where they needed to be…note that the Casino Party (invitation only) was the better one to be in, better food, gifts etc. Since there was more than one party, there was more than one viewing area (pool deck, parking garage etc). So when the Mrs. decided to bail on the party early and go back to the room, we noticed they had barricades and extra security guards! When I approached, I got a gruff: “Sir, where are you going?” “Up to my room” I replied, “the sign said to use the North elevators.” He then tells me I have to walk around and through the SpaceQuest casino instead of taking the shortest route which was past him. As we walked away, I heard his supervisor come over and yell at him “NOBODY comes through here to go to a room! Don’t let anyone pass, they’ll just have to wait!” ...? Since when can a hotel not let you get to your room when there’s no emergency?

All in all, we’re glad to be out of there. I had two rooms under my name (same folio) and while they at least posted my points faster than Paris, they only posted for one room. A quick call to HH CS cleared that up right away. I think we've decided that on our next trip we'll try the new Westin, Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay again.

Thanks for the trip report.

I don't feel compelled to tip the guy who takes the bags out of the trunk and puts them on the trolley if I'm going to tip the guy who brings them up to the room. They should all rotate or share tips so it isn't an issue.

Thank you for the LV Hilton report.
We're staying in Vegas at the end of Feb and meeting some family there. They ( family) are big fans of the LV Hilton and have got what they say is a good deal.
I however plan to stay at the E.S. on Swenson Street. After reading your report I think I made a wise choice.

First off let me congratulate you on your marriage.

Now regarding the LV Hilton if you did read my response to another Ftalkers question regarding
Las Vegas on New Years you might not have been totally surprised at what occurred and having spent New Years at Paris LV, the Flamingo, Venetian and three times at the LV Hilton in recent years ( cancelled this years trip due to death in the family) although somewhat unexpected by your group is not unique to any of the Strip hotels.

A) Cannot comment on the buffet, I have never eaten at a buffet in Vegas and hopefully never will.

B) Anybody driving a car in the city after 400PM is crazy, LV Blvd is blocked to traffic
and no casino including the Venetian I stayed at two years ago has any parking for even hotel guests because the parking will be completely full since hardly anybody can go anywhere.
Unless you know the back entrance out of the Venetian you are stuck.
Where are you going to go anyway? All the strip casinos will let only guests who can show room keys through the front door. So parking is a major problem coupled with the fact that
The big New Years party is extremely popular with the casino guests all staying at that hotel.
On busy days you are much better off parking in the garage and taking the North tower elevator to your room.

C) The fireworks show has created its own problems, though you might not have known that
traditional dropping of balloons etc has been replaced by many if not most properties not
only the Hilton.
So the blocking off of elevators is common in many places, so that the casino invited guests can access the roofs ( they are escorted up there from their respective parties on the now restricted elevators)
And always remember to the casinos these are their most important guests.
I suppose the thinking is who would not want go up to see a multi-million dollars fireworks show. The elevators are only blocked off for about an hour or so.

So although what occurred to you I know was disappointing and unexpected, some of the same problems would have been encountered at many other casinos at least on New Years.

I suspect the the LVH was rather different at New Years than the half dozen times I've stayed.

You get what you pay for here. Having said that, at $39/nt I've gotten a suite as a Gold. Breakfast is typical Hilton fare. Check-in is ALWAYS faster here than any other LV property I've stayed at as a result of the HHonors line. The health club is free for HH with decent equipment (gym quality), wet sauna, dry sauna, 3 whirlpools and ameneties, fruit and water.

The casino and other public areas are worn, but again, with the new train, you can get to the strip easily. Overall, for an HH member, I'd call this a great value but I won't spend more than $59/nt to stay here.

In addition to HHonors points, do the nights also qualify for Gold, Diamond, etc. requalification?
Went to hilton.com but none of those properties come up to make reservations....

Yep, they count as stays. Around 10 of my stays last year were from the LV Hilton, Paris, and Flamingo. I reserve on the Park Place website, and just make sure my HHonors number is put in the reservation when I check in.

Yes, stays and nights count towards your requalification as silver, gold or diamond at the present time. There has been much debate on this forum as to whether this will continue. Hopefully it will. You can book Ballys, Flamingo or Paris hotels in Las Vegas on what was Park Place site, now Caesars Entertainment at 'www.caesars.com'

That is smack in the middle of the National Automobile Dealers Association annual convention.

As a Diamond you should be able to get a room at a sold-out Hilton. Maybe more likely at a "real" Hilton vs. something affiliated like Paris. And probably not a cheap rate - ever notice the rates they post behind the doors?

I'll be staying at the Hampton Tropicana on Sunday Feb 1. Sorry, I know you're trying to check in on Saturday, but you might still check them out.

I got an Expedia rate of $69, which was lower than the Hilton.com rate, so I get it for $19 after my $50 gift cheque rebate. :-D

I would be shocked if you could pull this off - they have a great exclusion sentence in this.

"Guaranteed Reservations availability: Reservations availability is guaranteed to Diamond VIPs when reservations are made before midnight hotel local time, 48 hours prior to intended arrival. Guarantee applies to only one room occupied by the Diamond VIP member and to reservations made with a valid credit card. Please note that this guarantee does not apply to rates - if a rate for which you are normally eligible is not available, your reservation will be subject to the hotel's prevailing rate for the accommodations requested. Please also note that in some instances, the guarantee may be subject to booking conditions such as length of stay requirements. Also note that in the event you do not arrive as scheduled and do not call to cancel and obtain a cancellation number, your credit card will be billed for one night's room and tax. Additionally, the reservations guarantee is not available during specified Extraordinary Demand Dates at certain hotels and is not available for reservations booked online. "
