Lifetime Diamond Status with HHonors is now reality. ^

More recent information posted by Lauren (Hilton Honors Representative) reflects changes in the Honors Lifetime Diamond qualifying criteria:

While the team explores a number of initiatives, one area that we could change quickly was our Lifetime Diamond qualifications. As of January 2017, we will grant Lifetime Diamond to all members who have met the following criteria:

• Members who have maintained Diamond status for at least 10 years (years do not need to be consecutive)

AND

• Have stayed at least 1,000 nights - either paid or reward (as you may know, only paid nights were eligible before)

OR

• Have accumulated 2 million Base Points since joining the Hilton HHonors program (this is a new feature to enable more members to enjoy Lifetime Diamond status; also as a reminder, only Base Points are eligible...Bonus Points earned via promotions, co-brand credit cards, or other means do not count towards status)

So now, there will be essentially two ways you can qualify for Lifetime Diamond:
1. 10 years at Diamond with Hilton HHonors + 1,000 nights (including paid and reward)
2. 10 years at Diamond + 2 million cumulative Base Points

An email notification will go out in February to members who have qualified for Lifetime Diamond as of December 31, 2016. If you want a sneak peek to find out if you will qualify, you can contact the Diamond Desk and the team will be happy to help.

Please reach out with any questions or comments, and I’ll be sure to share them directly with Aaron and team.

Thank you!
Lauren

Details for the first inductees were announced on the 11th Feb. 2015. Erin (HHonors Rep here on FT) posted the announcement shortly before the emails were sent out to members on the same day.

Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:
  • Have maintained Diamond Status for at least 10 years (consecutive or concurrent) and
  • Completed paid stays totaling at least 1,000 nights
Members that met this criteria as of December 31, 2014 will be notified via email and receive their Lifetime Diamond Status in the mail at the physical address on their account at the end of February. Members that meet Lifetime Diamond Status criteria in the middle of the year will receive Lifetime Diamond Status at the beginning of the following year.

Please note that we are in early stages of this benefit, which means that elements of this offering may evolve and may change over time. As I hear of any updates, I will be sure to share those here.

As always, your input is truly valued and we welcome your thoughts and feedback during this launch period. We’re here and listening!

Thanks,
Erin
[B]Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:

All paid stays count — not just the paid stays during the years a member is a Hilton HHonors diamond.

As more information becomes available it will be added here. Should you have any updates please post them in the thread or in this wiki to keep the most pertinent info quickly available to those interested.

For those interested, the development unfolded as follows:

Erin, the HHonors rep on FT posted the following on 16/12/2014: (after some eagle eyed attention by adambrock from an email sent out by Hilton and which he thankfully posted here on FT: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...tus-email.html Kudos to adambrock for noticing and sharing it with the community. ^)

HHonorsRepresentative (Erin) wrote in that thread:

In 2015, HHonors will begin introducing Lifetime Diamond Status! As you may know, we’re always looking for new ways to reward you and we take into consideration your feedback on ways to recognize our most loyal members. Over the past several years, we’ve heard from you that Lifetime Diamond Status is important to you and I’m thrilled to announce that we will be inviting some of our most tenured Diamond members into this status.

I’ll have more details for you in early 2015 and I understand our first Lifetime Diamond members will receive their invitations in the early part of 2015. At this time, this is all the information I have on Lifetime Diamond Status, but I will do my best to keep you all updated as I hear more!

The gift is Bose Soundsport headphones ($129 on Amazon). Personally I'm not a Bose fan, as I find their sound quality to be unpleasantly equalized on the highs, but still a nice gift. The metal luggage tag and the Hilton journey book was in there too.

The box was huge though, and while nicely designed, it just goes in the recycling bin, so kind of a waste of materials IMO.

All that said though, I'm glad Hilton got their IT systems and processes fixed up so that when you make LTD you don't have to wait forever for the recognition or for this welcome package.
Hum, my kit (which I got in the last couple of weeks) contained a conventional luggage tag.

Audit of lifetime nights question

I have read several people mention that they they requested an audit of total lifetime nights, and an adjustment was made. What is the best way to request this? Every time I request my lifetime nights total I get different figures that don’t match previous results (after adding recent new nights). Eventually HH gets to a number that generally matches to previous results. Is there any downside in making this request (I guess the audit could result in a lower lifetime total)? I recently called HH and got a total night figure that generally seemed constant with a past request. I asked why this is just not posted on my account page, and the rep stated she had no idea.

The agent you asked for the lifetime total from can enter the request. Expect it to take a couple of months. I know of no downside especially since they are night total has generally been low .

Cancelling - status downgrade

I am considering cancelling my Aspire credit card, do you lose Diamond status immediately or is it valid for the remainder of that card year e.g. till February 2020 if I cancel today.

Ask the Hilton Rep on the board. With Lauren it was a shorter path and a more reliable answer

You think it's easier to hit 1000 nights (mostly in Asia where the rates are low) and maintain Diamond (AMEX) or $200k in Hilton spend in addition to getting Diamond from (AMEX)?

It is situational and dependent on your circumstances. I will get there on $ first as my average spend per room night is about $300 (~70% business travel over the years.). At $200 per night it is a push. If you are someone who uses a lot of award nights that will nudge you in the direction of nights vs $.

At any rate if you are making meaningful progress towards either measure in a given year you will probably get Diamond the old fashion way and not need the $450 Amex annual fee (I use the $100 Amex card.)

It's not hard to find Hilton and DT properties for under $250/night in China even on the day of stay. If I book in advance, I can usually get a better rate.

Just to be absolutely clear, if I can pull off 1000 nights, the I won't need to worry about the spending requirement of $200k in spending or points equivalent?

Right now my primary focus is on Bonvoy. Next would be Hilton.

Has anyone seen the revamped account information page on the website? It now shows a link to the "Lifetime Diamond" information page. According to the terms listed, one can achieve it by completing 1,000 paid and/or reward nights (or 2,000,000 base points earned). And of course, 10 full years of Diamond status. IIRC, reward nights did not qualify prior to this point. So, if this is true, it's a real plus (for me at least). ^

There's no dispute about the conditions for Lifetime Diamond. Reward nights always qualified. In fact, Hilton makes no distinction whatsoever between paid and reward, even for promos.

The problem is that Hilton Honors won't provide a tracker for us, and when we request information, it usually comes back wrong.

The inclusion of reward nights is only a couple of years old. When lifetime diamond was introduced 1000 paid nights were required. In December 2017 Lauren announced that effective in 2017 Hilton was expanding the criteria to achieve LTD to include reward night in the 1000 required nights or 2,000,000 base points in addition to the 10 years of diamond status.See the wiki here:

If only I had joined Marriott / Starwood instead of Hilton. By now would have been lifetime Gold and would really be working hard next year or the year after to complete 10+ years / 600 nights (all out of own pocket). With Hilton I will probably not be able to reach 1000 nights, unless I would stay Diamond for yet another 10 years. Or stay loyal to Hilton for another 20 years, and reach 2000000 lifetime points.

BonvoY:
Lifetime Silver Elite, 250 lifetime nights + 5 years Elite status
Lifetime Gold Elite, 400 lifetime nights + 7 years Gold Elite status or higher
Lifetime Platinum Elite + 600 lifetime nights + 10 years Platinum Elite

Your statement took me by surprise. Based on your contributions on FT I considered you being a 150% Hiltonian.
However, reading your post further makes me questioning myself, if I should have spent all my out-of-my-own-pocket hotel money someplace else.
Nevertheless, the Hilton options mostly were less expensive than Starwood those days. And the Hilton benefit of free breakfast has always been very appealing to me. And still is.
