Hilton Adelaide is awesome....Its right in the middle of everything...the lounge is great, serves a great breakfast and evening snacks....
Staff are first rate.....
Just a small cheeky tip...If you are driving to the hotel then the valet parking is $25 plus tax, however if you find a parking meter outside, and there are many of them, and you don't get up and out by 8am you will get a parking ticket...the fine $15.00 and you can pay on line..!
And a great Thai resturant around the corner called the "The Star of Siam"...get the hotel to book for you...
Love Adelaide

If you're on the Exec Floor, say hi to Janine (the Exec Club Manager) - her husband is one of the Concierges. She has an excellent memory (particularly what you drink), and the canapes are plentiful. Lovely view watching the sun set over the Adelaide Hills - plane spotting from the nearby airport at any time.

Would you stay here?
Should I save the points and find a room somewhere else that will not be as costly as the Hilton?
Thanks in advance for your help

We stayed there in early April. Just walked in off the street and got a good rate and upgrade to exec floor. (I'm a HH Diamond).
Room was pretty good. The drinks and food flowed freely in the exec lounge. And you can't beat the location - right on the central square; great views.
My only grumble is the price of valet parking.

I stayed here at the beginning of 2002.
It's fine, but I wouldn't say brilliant. Slightly dated (although obviously may have been refurbed since I stayed).
The location is good, near lots of restaurants (I can second Ferrarri's recommendation of the Star of Siam) and a little indoor market, although for me it would have been better to be at the other end of the main street, nearer to where the Hyatt etc is.

Must be one of those Kiwis who bought the casino in Adelaide...
(Dunno why my friends in Seaford get so upset about my mentioning that...)

We will be staying in OZ for ten nights in Sugust 05. As we plan this large undertaking, we start with a basic plan of Melbourne, Wine Country(Barossa valley) and Syndey. We have never traveled to OZ and not sure when we will be back, so we are trying to see three cities. We are looking at three nights each and one by SYD airport night before leaving. I was lucky in enough to get business on QF through USAIR, if they are still alive in August. We arrive in MEL and leave SYD. Going to Adelaide in between. Should we look to fly or is there a train service worth looking into for one leg.
I am HH Gold and SGP Gold. Does the Hilton Adelaide have a lounge, upgraded rooms? I am not sure to which hotels in SYD or MEL to look at. We like to shop and dine. I don't think we need a car in Syd or Mel? I have (HH) points for three nights at one stop. We would like to visit the wine country of Barossa Valley, can this be done from the Adelaide Hilton Is the Barossa Valley a day trip or should we look into stay in the valley?
Thanks Kiwi Flyer and I will be touch as the planning goes on.

Note that the NEW SYDNEY hilton whould be open by the end of this year!! something to look forward to as they did a COMPLETE RESTORATION of the whole building (Pretty much a rebuild of the existing frame and everything has being re-design (incl a new Attirum from Pitt to George Streets as well as a really good health club)

Despite what the Hilton website says the refurbished Sydney Hilton will NOT be opening this year. If you're in the area you can see there is still a lot of work to be done. Various opening dates have been speculated and ozstamps recently got an email or letter from Hilton Diamond Club which mentions a date - check recent threads where he posted this.
However, for your travel in September 2005 there is a (good?) chance it will be open by then.

While you could take a train (or bus) I wouldnt bother. You lose too much time (1 day+ each leg) when you are only in Oz for such a short time, and in any case can pick up air tix more cheaply (Virgin Blue, Jetstar or Qantas). If you had more time then I'd suggest a drive (or bus) along Great Ocean Road but as this takes 2-3 days that's out for you too.
Yes Hilton Adelaide has lounge and okay rooms. I havent stayed in exec rooms there but still get lounge access as gold.
Barossa Valley is an easy day trip from Adelaide - plenty of tour companies do this.
Other Hiltons - Melbourne I'd recommend Hilton on the Park (great location, great rooms, good service and amenities). Sydney currently has The Grace as stand-in but hopefully Hilton will reopen by then. Will leave it to others to comment on SPG properties.

I know this is a bit off topic but would you recommend the Hilton on the Park in Melbourne or Park Hyatt Melbourne/Grand Hyatt Melbourne? I am getting very low on my Hyatt GP points but still have 2 FFNs whereas I have lots of Hilton points and about 10-11 nights shy of requalifying for Diamond (which is very difficult to do in NZ since there is only 1 very expensive Hilton in AKL)...
A couple of colleagues from MEL recommended the Hyatts for location and mentioned that the MEL Hilton was a little run down and not that central...
Thanks, Mary

Sorry dont know much about the Hyatts. Hilton on the Park is very central if you're attending sporting events, but yes a moderate walk or short tram ride away from shopping areas etc.
As a gold I've always managed to get a great room there (didnt notice it looking tired ). Personally I qualify on stays and MEL is quite good for that being about the only place nearby with 2 Hiltons. Works in well with NZ's evening flights - stay at Airport Hilton then come into the city next morning to stay at Hilton on the Park = 2 stays.
PM me if you want more info.
Sorry about the diversion - back to Adelaide please.
