Diamond member making reservation for a Gold member

I have seen mention here and have heard friends say that a Diamond member can (on occasion) make a reservation in a full hotel for a friend/family member. I am Gold and am trying to get a reservation at the Valdoro Mountain Lodge for either the 28th of this month or 4th of April. Right now their website says it is booked. I'm going to call the hotel directly as I've heard that sometimes that helps also. However, I have a Diamond friend who has offered to try to help. Any of you have luck with this or have problems where a Diamond has made the reservation and then when the other person shows up, they don't get the room? Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Nevermind... I just called the hotel and found that they do have rooms available if I call directly. Also found out that they don't take Hilton Honors points at all.

In my experience Diamond members CAN sometimes get award inventory that others cannot access. And then kindly pass those rooms onto others - and in their names. Like me.

Happened last week.

Perhaps that's why the Diamond Desk asked, "Is the reservation for yourself?" when I booked an award stay last week. I was puzzled by the question, but I now understand why it was asking that question.

The Valdo Mtn Lodge is not a Hilton Hotel it is a Hilton Grand Vacation Club property. Hilton sells excess inventory through their res system, but it is primarily a timeshare location.

We stayed there last summer--great place, you should enjoy it. Breckenridge is a nice town. Will you be skiing?

I'm not sure if we'll stay there now or not. Still deciding all that. So.. are all of the Hilton Grand Vacation properties the same in that they don't accept points?
