Making multiple reservations?

I'm just looking for people's experiences with this. Here's my situation...

Last Friday when I picked up my Acadia (on an ICAR reservation, mind you), I told the Gold booth agent doing the checkout that I'd love it if they could pull that off again when I rent at the end of this month, since I'll be moving out for the summer. He said a lot of people rent cars then since it's the college summer exodus (basically), so availability becomes limited. I already have a 2-day ICAR reservation with Hertz, but after he told me that, I went ahead and booked an FCAR as well in case they were really tight on cars. I understand it's not the nicest thing of me to do that, but I'm just trying to make sure I can move out without having to make a million trips.

If, when I show up, they aren't tight on cars, can I cancel one without being charged, even if it's slightly (a few minutes) after pick-up time? Or would it be better to make one for 8am and the other for 8:30am? If they are in fact tight on vehicles, would they only prepare one car for me (and if so, do you think they'd honor the ICAR or FCAR reservation)?

Thanks

-J.

It will depend on the location. You will not be the first person to do this and won't be the last.

For a regular reservation in most cases there is no charge to no show. If there is a fee it will be disclosed during the reservation process. Tere will be a fee if it was a prepaid, based on when you cancel.

Of course, its not helping the tight on cars situation when people reserve multiple cars, but that is a different story.

They don't know if you need one or both cars, so they will probably prepare two assuming an additional driver would be driving the other one. Which one you get and which contract they toss out is anybody's guess.
