The veal is the best! And the Longhi Salad is delish. For breakfast, the Crab Cakes Benedict with some Home Fried Potatoes. You may want to skip lunch that day.

[QUOTE=JGR01;8417652]I am sure this has been covered before .. but searching on maui and food is within the 4 character limit!

It's been a bunch of years since I have been on Maui.

Any current good/great suggestions?

Actually staying at the Fairmont but do not mind driving back to Lahina.

What about Joe's, which is right down the street from the Kea Lani?

My wife and I like Joe's alot. Good food, casual, busy, sometimes noisy atmosphere. Of course, it doesn't hurt that our friend Sharon is the manager!

Here's some unbiased reviews from TripAdvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...ui_Hawaii.html

Its still listed in a bunch of web sites for Lahina .. like http://www.lahaina.com/food.htm#ital

Are you saying the original one closed and this is the 'newer' one?:(

Their sushi bar is good, though, which is something I can't say abut the Maui locations. Love Kapalua for pupus at the liquor bar, though...

Also, Nick's at the Kea Lani... I don't like waiting & sitting down for a full meal, but splitting a couple of appetizers and a main (lobster!) in the bar is pretty fun.

The brunch at the Kea Lani is great. Especially the Japanese breakfast food. I once fought over the last macadamia nut cinnamon roll with Jason Alexander. We ended up splitting it. And let Roseanne have it another time... wasn't going head to head with her ;)

And Cafe Ciao is fine for pizza & their to go lunch offerings in the deli are really good - chicken caesar wraps & great deli salads.

Their swimup bar/restaurant is good for lunch - excellent burgers & salads. And mango daiquiris in season :)

And... I LOVE the lobby bar when they have a guitarist - martinis are great and it's very romantic!

Longhi's

Definitely go to Longhi's! ^
Sit downstairs and talk story with the headwaiter.

Even better idea. ^
Go there and flirt with the cute bartender! ;):D

Both of these are on my list of things to do next time I'm on Maui.

Disagree 100%. Overrated, overpriced, very poor value. $28 for a small seafood salad at lunch (it was good, but not $28 good ;) ). However, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here for a cocktail to enjoy the fabulous view. Just don't order food unless you have money to burn.

Agree 100%. Fantastic value if you go early or late, when you will receive a 25-50% discount.

While we enjoyed the food and service at the following establishments, the prices were a bit high for the value received (keeping in mind that my expectations rise along with prices):

Pacifico
Roy's
Longhi
Leilanis

Used to enjoy Cheeseburgers in Paradise but the food and service were mediocre on our last visit - and it isn't that hard to make a good hamburger, especially when the place is pretty empty. :(

There are quite a few places that offer good value in Kihei, which tends to cater more to locals and condo owners, as opposed to the Laihaina tourist traps and fine dining (read: expensive) establishment.

Will update after our upcoming visit.

OMG! Mediocre is a step up for that place! They strive for mediocrity! Talk about a tourist trap! And by the way, it is hard to make a good hamburger when it's made from the cheapest frozen institutional patty on the wholesale market. I watch the trucks deliver 'em by the palletfull and cringe! Ecch!

I recommend Cool Cat's in the Wharf Cinema Center for your next Lahaina Town burger fix. Or the Pioneer Inn. Anywhere but Cheapburger in Paradise!

I am with you on this one.

Anywhere but Cheeseburger in Paradise. If you eat there you hit it on the right day if everything was mediocre b/c normally they are terrible with service and food.

Joe's is very good, but my favorite place in Wailea now is Capische. It's located in the Diamond Hawaii Resort in Wailea and is still a bit of an undiscovered spot. The sunset views from the deck are unsurpassed in Wailea and the food is great. I was also impressed by the quality of the wine list with a number of good CA labels represented. I hesitate to even mention it here, because it's been easy to get reservations in the past, but I want it to stay in business until we return next year! ;)

I didn't get together with kaukau, unfortunately, since generally stay in the Huelo Point area with friends there, but did give Roy's another shot and was terribly disappointed. Their chocolate souffle is the only thing I think they have going for them. I will give that there is another reason to go to Lahaina - Mala. Everything I ordered there was very good.
