Thanks for all the replys. I am staying at the Fairmont, my only concern is that Nick's is more expensive than some of the others.

Maybe you'll enjoy Joe's, in Wailea. http://www.restauranteur.com/joes/

Maui: Consolidated Wailea/Ka`anapali/Kahului/Wailuku Restaurants Thread

I am sure this has been covered before .. but searching on maui and food is within the 4 character limit!

It's been a bunch of years since I have been on Maui.

Any current good/great suggestions?

Actually staying at the Fairmont but do not mind driving back to Lahina.

Longhi's used to be really great.
Also recall good food at Alex's Hole in the Wall.

Would love some current recommendations or links.

Maui Tacos is an excellent fast food option. The restaurants at the hotels in Wailea are almost all can't-miss, but they are pricey.

Warning: stay away from Bada Bing (family Italian in Kihei). I'm not a demanding customer, but service here was just horrible and the food was not very good.

Pacific'O and I'O are only good restaurants now in Lahaina, IMO.

Haliimaile General Store is good.

Cafe Des Amis is casual spot in Paia, but good crepes (sweet and savory) and med platter.

Colleen's in Haiku does a good breakfast.

At least we've got two! I mean, that's two more than there are in Alamo, CA IMO.

When in Lahaina, OP might want to dine at David Paul's, Gerard's, Roy's, or the Plantation House as well as I'o and Pacific'O, just to name a few more.

Mama's Fish House. One of the best (and most expensive) meals I have ever eaten. (July 24, 2007) However, it was a great value. I will stay at their hotel next time I visit Maui.

The great thing about Flyertalk is that there are so many opinions. I've heard here on this forum that Haliimaile General Store is not so great.

At the Lahaina DO we enjoyed both Longhi's and Thai Chef for dinner.

We had a great margherita brick-oven pizza at Kula Lodge, outside seating on their terrace overlooking central Maui.

didn't know this was a competition ...but FWIW, we quite like it that way ... we're not a place that looks to attract much attention (or tourist dollars)... that's why we have rather large minimum lot sizes and lots of well-hidden homes ... property taxes pay the bills here. :)

We're looking forward to another dinner at Capische. Lovely at sunset, good food, altogether a very pleasant place.

Depends what you're in the mood for...

1) large, busy, sometimes noisy, predictable but delicious food with good service....Mama's Fish House

2) quiet, intimate, romantic, top-notch food and service - beachside table at Pacific'O or I'O (I've tried both and prefer Pacific'O)

3) busy, friendly, boisterous, live music with top-notch food and service - Pacific'O inside seating when they host the jazz band

Hi l'etoile - my bolding icon is not working at this time.

Who snowballed you? My friends Stephan and James? (They own Pacific'O and I'O, respectively.) It's not a competition; but suggesting that there are only two restaurants in Lahaina worth dining at is totally ridiculous and a disservice to OP. And what's all this talk about tourist dollars, property taxes and minimum lot sizes? I thought this thread was about Maui restaurants? - my "wink" emoticon is not working either.

While they may well be your favorite two restaurants in Lahaina, - and rank in my Top Ten for sure - Pacifi'O and I'O aren't even close to being the be-all and end-all for dining options in Lahaina, as proffered up in numerous posts on the subject in this forum.

Here's a list of Lahaina restaurants that you can find my wife and I enjoying most anytime we wish to go out to dinner, in no particular order:

Gerard's
David Paul's
Chez Paul
Sansei
Roy's
Longhi's
Pacific'O
I'O
Lahaina Store
Castaway's - Wine Spectator "Best Wine Cellar In Hawai'i" (That's the whole State!)
Plantation House
Lahaina Fish Company
Hula Grill
Leilani's
Ruth Chris
Thai Chef
Kobe
Fish and Game Brewing Co.
Mala

And there's even more - we haven't mentioned the hotels' fine dining venues - and we're still on the Lahaina side of the Pali!

Go with me on this one: my FlyerTalk handle "kaukau" means "food" or "to eat" in local pidgin!

Two thumbs up. High atop the Wailea Blue Course. Unbelievable sunset views!

I'll join the chorus. Capische stands out among the fine dining restaurants of Wailea, which are generally excellent. It's a small restaurant, so arrange reservations as early as possible if you're interested.

Ah, yes. Alex's Hole In The Wall. Used to be considered the best Italian food on Front St. Alas, closed at least 15 years now. It's just office space now. Try Longhi's for your Italian fix: Linguine with clams, Chicken Marsala, Spaghetti Putanesca, Veal Piccata, Eggplant Parmigiana.
