If/when it's elevated from a watch to a warning; and if it changes course to the north. Your flight is headed north-east out of KOA, away from the storm's path. Hopefully, you won't be affected at all! ^

Where? I am sitting poolside at 4S Hualalai and it is gorgeous here. Some clouds off to the west, but just light trades at the resort. Not even any whitecaps!

Ironically, this is about the lightest wind day we have had in the last week at Hualalai. We are leaving on a 11 a.m. KOA-OGG flight. Looks like our timing is pretty good for that flight! ^

We are looking forward to giving the Renaissance Wailea a good (hopefully not drenched) sendoff this week.

I can't help but notice that AA is allowing you to change your date of travel from August 17, 2007 to as late as August 17, 2007. Not much of a waiver policy, if you ask me.

Here on Oahu, it is sunny with scattered clouds as I stare out my window here from work. Variable winds, fromt what it seems, but there are some high gusts. Don't know if that is Flossie related.

Forecast is for 50mph winds at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, with closest approach (we'll hope that it's not landfall) ~ 3:00 p.m. Continues to have 135 mph sustained winds with gusts to 150.

The good news is that it is a relatively compact hurricane so the time it will be over any given spot should be shorter....

A little over an hour ago there was a relatively shallow 5.3 earthquake in the Puna district of the Big Island, near where the new lava outbreak is.

No word yet on any damages in the area, but it was strongly felt many miles away.

This is the sixth earthquake today in the very same spot. And this is the area (along with the Ka`u district) that is predicted (right now, anyway) to receive the brunt of Flossie.

ETA: Make that eight earthquakes, not six.

Apart from the many earthquakes that have rattled the Big Island, Flossie's expected to weaken per the latest report:

Good friends of mine left NY this morning, headed to the Waikoloa Marriott. They were aware of Hurricane Flossie but I'm sure were not expecting a 5.3 earthquake.

I'd personally appreciate it if you could keep us updated if there are any more substantial quakes. Much thanks.

No more substantial quakes. The one last night caused a landslide in the Laupahoehoe Gulch, 51 miles away. I haven't heard yet whether traffic was blocked. Haven't heard whether there was any damage to homes in the lower Puna area where the quake(s) are located.

Hurricane is now downgraded to a Cat 2, passing 100 miles south of the Big Island this afternoon. Winds up to 75 mph, though, are still expected over the whole island with 10-15" of rain forecast for the Ka`u district.

Koa

I'm sitting here looking out my windows - a beautiful day! The 1100 report said it has weakened more but South Point should still see some substantial winds and rain - although nothing close to hurricane force.

I'm working TZ tonight. I just hope it doesn't pour; KOA is a pain in the butt when the rain and wind starts.

We're not out of trouble yet but it looks pretty good!

Puna and Ka`u have begun to really get pounded with very high surf.

For those who would find a map helpful, here's a simple one: http://www.hawaiipalmproperties.com/...hawaii-map.jpg

Checking in from Hilo

We're a few miles from ITO. My daughter and I were surprised by the quake - we felt it plenty strongly here. Other than that, it's raining in Hilo, calm or a light breeze... pretty hard to tell from most other days.
