Just torrential rains on the Big Island
(Bad enough on Sunday night that HA ITO-HNL was delayed in the evening by 1+ hours because HA wouldn't let the aircraft leave HNL because ITO was below landing minimums because of rain and RVR)

While at the beach at Bellows yesterday I was wondering why the arrivals weren't flying overhead and were instead flying over Makapuu & beyond. That makes sense.
I did see a typical 8L arrival on the way over there though.

Kona departure last night. Got a nice view of waikiki and diamond head from my exit row seat.

There we're some Kona arrivals end of the day today, including one I had never seen before - rather than parallel alongside the shoreline from Diamondhead, this one 757 (could have been a 737) came directly over Kakaako as if he was tracking the Pali... and low! I was really surprised. Right after that guy it went back to the regular Kona approach.

Kona wind arrivals again today. Watched a NW747 in NW (not DL!) colors land on the reef runway. All the heavies from Japan make for good metal watching on a Kona-wind day (luckily, the winds aren't strong enough here to bring any vog).

Just saw this thread and realized I should maybe start taking pics of the planes during kona winds. I got a view of magic island from my office and always see the planes pass by when get kona winds. Just gotta remember to bring the camera.

Runway lights have switched around--time for Kona wind arrivals again. Weather forecasters predicting Kona winds to stick around till the end of this week, so there's an increased likelihood that you'll want that seat on the right side of the aircraft inbound to HNL.
