Despite the vog, looks like we're dealing with regular trade wind arrivals today. Winds must be calm.

Those of us on UA 77 SFO-HNL were treated to a Kona Wind Landing onto 26L this afternoon. I can estimate that I've only done this landing less than five times in all the years I've flown into HNL.

I think I might have seen your heavy land. It was about 6:30-7:00?

That would have been us; I believe we were wheels down around 6:45. Sorry I missed seeing you this weekend.

Here's a video of the landing from the port side - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcJC3V-pj4I

Does anyone service HNL with an Airbus 340? I could swear I saw a non-747 4 engine with wingtip on Kona approach a few days ago. Could've been military, maybe C-17, but am pretty sure it wasn't a high wing aircraft.

Perhaps Philippine Airlines?

Both Philippine and China Airlines have flights using an A340. Neat.

Windy landings or Kona landings? As to the latter, no. As to the former, probably not in the last two weeks at least.

This may not be the best thread for your question, but I am partial to the right side of the aircraft (the H-J seats vice the A-B ones).

I like flying over Kailua and looking down and spotting my house and the beach and knowing that I will be in those waves within the hour.

Then over the Ko'olaus & Honolulu and a series of (usually) right turns until you land. ^

Going back HNL-DEN it won't matter since you'll leave late at night and go feet wet almost immediately. But FWIW, I like the exit row window seats just so I can nestle in and get a good 6-7 hours of sleep before we land in DEN.

Kona wind landings yesterday and today. Probably will continue until tomorrow.

At least the vog isn't bad.
