We have been traveling to Maui since 2001. Many times we have booked directly with the property owner (Hotel or Condo association) but for the past few years have booked directly with Quam Properties for units they have listed. We have not have had any problems that were not resolved with those units (Condos) and have usually paid less than what we would have paid booking with the property directly.

My wife and I are going in May and haven't booked at condo yet. it seems they are way better option for us. Even if we have to pay for "cleaning fee" and other fees.
Much less people than a hotel and less touristy areas we like.
We are going to spend 5 days in Maui sightseeing the island. We want to experience the local things, food and culture.

Condo recommendation in Big Island
Hi there,
Looking at condos at Waikoloa Colony and Hallii Kai Villas, as well as the Marriott Waikoloa Ocean Club. Any recommendations? Particularly interested in facilities. Thanks!

Bumping this thread. Is VRBO/AirBnB still the best way to go for Maui? Are there any local management companies that have properties that aren't on those two platforms?

Plenty, such as Sullivan Properties and Quam Properties, plus at least a half dozen more. That said, I think all are banned currently but I could be wrong.

I am looking for a 6-month oceanfront rental in Kauai anytime after Labor Day. A small rental home is ideal but a condo would be a second choice. Does anyone have any leads/recommendations on where I might start my search other than the obvious on airbnb or vrbo? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

edit: so i looked into both companies, and while their properties are very nice especially for families, their prices are $$$.

I would say it depends. I would also explore Facebook Marketplace. I thought that was crazy when I first heard that, but despite my doubts I found a legit company offering a property that fit my needs perfectly. I did some research on the company and called them directly.
