CURRENT POLICIES
- JULY 8 - Fully vaccinated U.S. travelers flying domestically — including island residents returning home — will be allowed to bypass Hawaii’s quarantine and pre-travel restrictions, as long as they upload their vaccination records to the state’s Safe Travels website and arrive with a hard copy of their vaccinations records. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hawaii/2044877-those-fully-vaccinated-anywhere-us-eligible-bypass-quarantine-july-8th-new-post.html
- JUNE 15 - Fully vaccinated travelers who received the vaccine in Hawaii are now exempt from Safe Travels
- JUNE 15 - Regardless of their vaccination status, travelers are allowed to fly between islands without having to take a COVID test or quarantine.
- AFTER JANUARY 3, 2022 The mandatory 5-day quarantine is required for all unvaccinated passengers (visitors and returning residents) arriving into the state of Hawaii.
- Additionally, operations, including peer-to-peer platforms or sharing services, may not rent vehicles to any person who is subject to a 5-day traveler quarantine order unless an exemption is granted.
- Travelers flying into Hawaii are required to register personal information into the Safe Travels application; the information will be used to aid officials in contacting travelers via phone, email, and SMS. It does *not* currently enable GPS-tracking of travelers via their mobile devices.
- Travelers are exempt from the mandatory 5-day quarantine if testing is completed no more than 72 hours before the departure time of the final leg of your flight to Hawai‘i with proof of a negative result.
- The state of Hawai‘i will ONLY accept Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) lab test results from TRUSTED TESTING AND TRAVEL PARTNERS. A negative COVID-19 test result is required prior to departure to avoid quarantine in Hawai‘i.
- If results are not available by time of arrival, quarantine necessary until test results received.
- All travelers (returning residents and visitors) of all ages subject to pre-test requirement.
- Individuals are responsible for testing costs.
- Travelers (returning residents and visitors) are not able to test upon arrival in Hawaii because this is a pre-travel testing program.
- No commercial COVID-19 NAAT testing will be provided upon arrival at the airport. Travelers without the pre-test will be in quarantine.

From the Hawaii Safe Travels website:
"Travelers wishing to use the pre-travel test to bypass quarantine must have a negative result from a test taken from a Trusted Testing and Travel Partner no more than 72 hours BEFORE beginning the final leg of their trip. Anyone without a negative test result or U.S. vaccination PRIOR to departure must quarantine upon arrival. The State of Hawai‘i will also accept test results that are digitally validated by Digital Health Pass Partners.
The negative test result must be uploaded onto Safe Travels or printed out prior to departure and hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawai‘i."

If she's traveling to Oahu or Maui, she won't be allowed into public venues like restaurants and theaters.

Ah ok good. So it sounds like an unvaccinated 12 year-old will indeed be allowed into public venues like restaurants and theatres so long as an appropriate negative test is presented

Must have a negative COVID test from an approved lab within 72 hours of scheduled departure or your flight which lands in Hawaii. The 72 hour window applies to the SCHEDULED time of departure, not the actual time caused delays etc. This applies to ANYONE who is unvaccinated.

Ok so I read the official Hawaii page about this and I'm a bit confused.
I'm unvaccinated so I need a test. So if I go to one of the trusted testing partners without the + sign (say CVS or Walgreens) that means that they are not required to give me the test results in the special Hawaii format. So, what do I do? Just tell them that I'm going to Hawaii and I need the results in the special format? Will they know what I'm talking about?

There's a lot of details about the testing requirements in the wikipost of this thread. In short, you will need to find a provider of a test that meets Hawaii's requirements for types of tests, get tested within the specified timeframe before your flight to Hawaii, and have the results in hand before getting on the flight.

In particular, doesn't it have to be from a "trusted tester" (my doctor does the right type of test but the lab that processes it isn't on the trusted tester list... so that's useless to me, right? I go to One Medical and they send everything to LabCorp for processing)
Also the website says something about a requirement about the format of the test results (which is what I was asking about in my post that got moved here)

Is this right? I thought it was far more strict.

Haven't heard about a format issue...in our 3 trips to Maui. Perhaps that's a new issue?

When I first got my Walgreens test back last spring, there was a Lab PDF and Easy Read PDF I believe. I sent in the Easy Read by accident, and had to resubmit the Lab PDF for approval.
