How long to do things in Honolulu?
Just a short trip of 2.5 days unfortunately (longer next time).
Looking at:
Diamondhead
Hanauma Bay snorkelling
Dole Plantation
Pearl Harbor
Will most likely have a car so getting from A to B shouldn't be a problem.
The pineapples, whilst nice to see, are slightly less important than the others (may be better seeing them on another island?)

Assuming you are walking from a hotel in Waikiki to the Diamond Head trail, that will take you about 3-4 hours. If you drive there, you can do the hike in 90 minutes. But, all this depends on your fitness level.
Forget about Dole Plantation. It is mostly a store.
Pearl Harbor, including transport, will take you a 4-5 hours, and would be best to do as part of a round-the-island trip. That way travel time is partitioned amongst many other sites as well.
How long do you want to snorkel?

From what I've read, it's best to get to the beach area early as it fills up and some other comments mentioned the water getting choppier in the afternoon.
Time wise, depends on how many fish are there to see.
Never understood why a lot of tourist attraction close early. It can be light until say 10pm yet by 5pm, that's it.

agree with above.
one morning you can snorkel
one morning you can hike Diamond Head
one afternoon Pearl Harbor
one afternoon to circle the island.
a little fast with little "rest time" but sometimes doing stuff is the best rest for the brain.
There is also a rainforest hike; a little wet and slimy but the waterfall at the end of the trek is nice.

Meh....I send folks up there for the Dole Whips and its worth the time especially if you are heading to North Shore afterwards.....
Would I buy anything else there...? No...not unless you wanted something Dole specific for some reason. Everything else is cheaper in town.....especially if one is wanting to get pineapples and bring them home.
Go to Safeway or Foodland (or Costco) and get Maui Golds for 99 cents a pound or less......

You are correct..... just to go there to go there is silly.....
If you are in the area and want to stop, then sure.
As stated, I did my Dole Whip runs when I was there...and I am sure when I get back in a couple of months for my first visit since leaving, I will be back up there just for that....

We've hiked Diamond Head, but have never considered walking there from Waikiki. not the prettiest walk and eats up alot of time. We enjoyed the hike around diamond head but i think in the hawaiian heat there are more pleasant ways to spend the day than walking there and back, like snorkling for longer. personal preference i guess but do consider driving up and then hiking, or even walking one way and taking a trolley back.

Pearl Harbor time varies depending on whether you see the additional exhibits (submarine Bowfin, battleship Missouri, and air museum), and how long you take in them. It could easily take all day or more, since the Missouri is quite large. The Oklahoma memorial is just outside the entrance to the Missouri.
Diamond Head is a quick hike for someone who has reasonably good physical fitness.
The Bus does give useful coverage of many places if you choose not to rent a car or if there are traffic jam issues around your hotel.
