Cancellation Advice Please!!!

My husband and I will be heading to Oahu in 2 weeks! I was hoping one of you travel experts might be able to help us with something.

We were planning on staying 2 nights at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and then spending 3 nights at Disney’s Aulani.

We found out that Aulani was offering a promotion of stay 5 nights for the price of 3 during their renovations. My husband called and was able to change all 5 nights to Aulani.

However, we booked the Aulani part ourselves (to use reward points) and everything else through our travel agent. When we called our travel agent to ask if we could cancel the 2 nights at the HHV to maybe get some money back, he informed us that the flight/rental car/HHV had all been booked together as a package and the cheaper prices were because they were a package and that he did not think there was a way to get even part of the HHV costs refunded to us.

It doesn’t really matter because our total cost for the trip hasn’t changed, but it would be nice to get some of the cost of the HHV back. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Can you access your HHV reservation on the Hilton website? That might give you more info about cancellation penalties. Or call Hilton customer service and ask.

And if you can't cancel, you might want to go enjoy the hotel pool and other amenities for a day.

A better idea would be to call the property directly (not the 800#). Simply ask what the refund will be if you cancel. The remainder of the details are not significant. The chances of a refund are pretty slim. Howeer, you might be offered a voucher or somesuch.

I would also never use that TA again. The fact that this was all part of a package was something you should have known about before you signed on the dotted line.

I agree with the others...call the hotel directly at the 808 number but make sure in your options you dont get rerouted to the 800 reservation line. You need to talk to a manager to see if you can cancel the reservation or they just charge you a one night penalty.

I have managed in the past when I spoke to the hotel directly that they were accommodating and let me cancel penalty free. YMMV.

These package deals are usually bundled for a reason.... and the cost savings can be substantial.

Was your agent able to tell you how much the hotel is actually getting for your reservation? I am sure it is no where near what it would cost you if you booked on their website.

That is a great hotel... and even if you only used the facilities as a day pass, it is worth going.
