Using FF miles for interisland flights

I am looking to use Hawaiian frequent flyer miles for a one-way flight from Honolulu to Kona in September. On their website, there are no flights available using the basic 5,000 mile flight award for that day. I don't get it because it is more than 3 months out and I'm not flying during a popular month. Even the $68 "cheap" fare for that day is only available to very few flights on that day (9/22). Should I wait to see if I can cash in miles or grab a $68 fare while I can?

I think you're right. I don't really want to wait until the last minute. I guess $68 is probably the best I will do if I can't use FF.

I agree with jtkauai.
Only other suggestion; check Island Air. www.islandair.com If their schedule works for you they can sometimes be a few dollars cheaper. Very nice folks, very nice planes.

i wouldn't have too much remorse. turns out that hawaii may be coming up a little softer this summer than the industry expected. i'm seeing prices starting to dip and more availability show up, even in july and august. but no one knew that, not even the airlines.

Don't sweat it (and welcome to FT!). After all, you are going to paradise.
