Help with miles purchase
Hi,
I looking at booking a flight in 1st class on Hawaiian airlines from LAX to Honolulu for next year.
The current price for dates I want to travel is $2100 dollars one way.
However I have received an email from Hawaiian airlines offering to purchase miles with a bonus offering, so I could purchase 40k miles & receive a bonus 40k. For a total of $1016
So when I go on the website it says I can book the flight I want for total 80k miles & $6.
Im just checking if there is a catch anywhere or any extra charges once I go through to the payment page, as it seems a no brainer as its literally half the price to purchase the flight through miles.
I didnt want to purchase the miles to then find out there is extra charges or anything what could catch me out.
Thanks for any help.
Glen

Welcome to FT!
In general the main risk is award availability disappearing between purchase and booking. Typically $2000 for one way is rather high; 600-1000 for F (even lie flat on DL, HA, or some UA) is more common so from that prospective buying miles is not the best value. If you dont have flexibility and your only choice is miles for 1K or paid 2K - buying miles is definitely a great deal; at the very worst they will become AS miles with lots of redemption options.
