You may want to consider Manchester; decent sized town, great gay scene, adorable accents....
However, I really agree with the earlier posts suggesting you give London another chance. If you stuck to Earls Court and the West End & Vauxhall, you have not really experienced living there. There are plenty of great neighbourhoods and you need never go into central London. You'll have an easier time getting a job too.
