Hi everyone...

I have a seven hour layover in Munich (14:45 - 21:50) flying out in F to Hong Kong.

Any suggestions please - I love photography so maybe a nice place to shoot some pictures???

I only have carry-on luggage - is there a place to store it?

I like to be back to enjoy the lounge and take a shower prior take-off.

How far from the F lounge to the gate - I assume I will have to walk.

Any other tips?

No problem, you can leave you luggage in the F-lounge. The have a wardrobe with luggage-boxes.

Buy a one day travel card (10 Euros). Take the S-Bahn (S1 or S8) to the city (takes 40 min. ish). Get off Marienplatz (Town hall). Walk down to the Viktualienmarkt, than to the Maximiliansstrasse, than to the opera, turn right to Residenzstrasse, than Hofgarten, Ludwigstrasse, back to Theatinerstrasse and back to the Marienplatz. There are lots of Cafes and Restaurants. The HAckerhaus in the Sendlingerstrasse is nice or try the Weisses Br�uhaus‎ in the Tal (near to the famous Hofbr�uhaus). Take the S8 back to the airport. The train is running every 20 min. Have a nice trip!!!

I'm in almost the same position as the OP, with a 6-hour layover in Munich tomorrow, only I'm flying LH Y as *A gold, arriving "domestically" (intra-Schengen) and leaving on an intercontinental flight. Do any of the lounges I have access to have luggage storage, and if yes, which ones?

Jpatokal - You should have lounge access, even intra-EU as a *Gold. Check with the LH lounge. If they won't allow you to store your baggage, see if you can go ahead and check your bags with your next leg, just leaving you with your carry-on.
Six hours is just enough time to get into the city, have a good meal and a liter (or two), and take a look around. Just as a previous poster mentioned, I'd stick to the Marienplatz area.

I'm doing a not-quite-so-pure run at the end of May. I will be there from noon Sunday until 5 pm Monday, so I have a bit more time. Staying at the Rennaissance Munich.

Is the Virktualienmarkt better done in the morning, for breakfast, or in the late afternoon on the day I get there? Should I combine it with sightseeing at the Marienplatz? What kind of timing am I likely to endure getting from the airport to the Rennaissance via subway, and how much time does it take to get from the Rennaissance to the Marienplatz?

What recommendations are there for "must sees" and places to eat? Is Munich a late-night town, or does it go to sleep early? If you had about 30 hours in town, what would you do during that time?

Any help you might give to this newcomer to Germany would be appreciated.

Because you are staying at the Ren, you might consider taking the Lufthansa Airport bus to and from MUC. The Munich North stop is very close to the hotel. If you take the S-bahn, you will need to transfer to the U-Bahn (U6) to the Nordfriedhof station to reach the hotel:

You can then purchase a lower-cost Tageskarte (day pass) for your inner-city sightseeing needs.

Thanks. Is there a website where I can find out more about Tageskartes? I'm wondering whether a card purchased at 3 pm is good through 3 pm the next day, or only until midnight or 1 am? Do you have any idea how much time the airport bus takes vs. subway with transfer? I won't have much luggage, so transferring's not a concern.

Edit: I just looked, and a Tageskarte for interior Munich costs 5 Euros a day, and I would need 2 for 10 Euros. A return bus ticket would cost 17 Euros for a total of 27 Euros. Two Tageskartes that include the airport would be a total of 20 Euros, so cheaper. Is the bus any faster than the S-Bahn/U-Bahn route?

The Tageskarte is valid all day on the day purchased, until 06:00 the following morning.

The bus website lists a travel time of 25 minutes to the Munich North stop (I'm sure it's longer at heavier traffic times).

On the MVV website's trip planner, a noontime trip from the Flughafen to Nordfriedhof is listed at 56 minutes (with 10 minutes for a connection at Marienplatz - you change from the S8 to the U6, for the second part of the journey). It takes a little longer because you go all the way into the center city, then backtrack a little ways north).

I'm guessing that, because your trip is so short, your luggage will not be super-heavy, so maneuvering on the MVV system should not be a problem (most stations in the urban area have escalators and/or lifts).

I'd do it in the afternoon. Easy to do the Marienplatz as they are practically contiguous.

It should be about the same. At off peak times the bus can be faster. However, the S-Bahn takes you directly to Marienplatz, whereas the bus takes you to Munich central station.

Edited: I saw you want the Renaissance. No doubt about taking the bus.

Viktualienmarkt is perfect for a "Weisswurstfr�hst�ck" with brezles and Weissbier. The MUST typical Bavarian breakfast.
This should to be taken in the time from 9am - 12.am.
A very cozy, very traditional Beer-restaurant is the "Valentinsst�berl" around a corner away from Viktualienmarkt. Just gu to the Market and ask for this location.
Also a major must-see in Munich is the Frauenkirche (very good for your pictures, as it�s two towers are a recognition-sign for Munich.
Marienplatz with it�s City-Hall and clockwork, as well as the famous deli-market "Dallmayr" (2 min. away from the City-Hall) are both worth a walk.
If sun is shining and it�s not too cold during your stay, you should take a stroll through the "Englischen Garten", a large Park-Area within Munich. And make sure to plan a stop there at the "Seehaus" or at the "Chinesischem Turm", two of the beautiful and Munich-like beergardens. You get your beer here in "Masskr�gen", which take 1l, so start it slowly
