Followup: We weren't able to find any Badisch or Schwäbisch restaurants, having been told that the only one known to the concierge had closed several months earlier. It wasn't clear if that were for all of Frankfurt or only Bockenheim. If the former, I have to admit I'm surprised at the lack in one of Germany's largest cities, especially one so close to Baden-Württemberg.

My experience in Germany is that the local restaurants and "Kneipen" with food really only serve regional favourites. You might get a few Bavarian and Swabian speciality places but are more likely to run into a Thai or even Austrian restaurant.

Like would you say NYC is a place to get typical American food... (BTW what is typical US food ? Hamburger, Pizza or Tacos... I am kidding.)
But for FRA it is for sure that you will have it easier to find Italian, Greek or Turkish rather than German... beside maybe some places in Sachsenhausen...
with Apfelwein...
