Suggestions please from AA codeshare cities in Germany?
We posted this in AA, but was suggested to re post here:
Two different questions: 1-Which cities you suggest to visit from below list, and 2-From these cities any easy way to get to Berlin:
On these codeshare you cannot got directly to Berlin.
1-Which other cities you would suggest looking into for a 3-5 days stay ( but not Munich or Dusseldorf)?
2-Would there be a sensible way to get to Berlin, or near to it with this codeshare from the following ciites?
The following are available per AA: Bonn, Cologne, Dortmund, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Erfurt, Essn, Freiburg, Goetingen, Hamburg, Hannover, Kassel, Leipzig, Mannheim, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Wurzburg.

As always with such open ended questions - it depends what you are interested in!! Art and culture? History and monuments? Partying and nightclubs? Food and wine?
Me personally, I'd perhaps suggest Dresden and/or Hamburg - two quite different cities to give you some variety, both within easy reach of Berlin.
As for getting to Berlin from any of those cities, either trains or planes will be possible from almost all of them - depends on time and money! Bigger cities closer to Berlin will, of course be more convenient.

As mentioned - it really depends. But Hamburg and Dresden are of course very nice cities for a 3-5 day stay - a good mixture of culture (Dresden) and vibrant citylife (Hamburg). Berlin is only a short trainride (I assume that AA codeshares with Deutsche Bahn) from both cities - should be ~90 minutes.

Dortmund, Erfurt, Essen, Freiburg, Goettingen, Hannover, Kassel, Mannheim.
Typical must sees are:
Cologne, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich
Fantastic hidden gems are:
Nuremberg, Wrzburg
Special interest might be:
Bonn, Dusseldorf, Leipzig, Stuttgart
All of these are in two to five hours train distance or cheap (50 to 100 Euro) flight disteance to Berlin

I'd not take Erfurt off of the list if your interests include the historical, architectural and literature. In addition to the many attractions in Erfurt proper, it is a very short journey to Weimar, where you can visit the Goethe attractions and the Bauhaus museum, and from which also pay an important (if somber) visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp (Weimar city bus #6 makes the trip from the city center). And also in Weimar, I think that they just reopened the Anna Amalia library, which was partially burned so tragically a few years ago.

I was tempted when I first replied to give a list of 'expendable' cities, but decided that would lead to everyone piling in to defend their favourite place!
However I pretty much agree with Flying Lawyer's breakdown - though I might promote Leipzig to Hidden Gem! Many of the Cross Outs I'd like to do one day, but they are night high on my To Do list

Well, OK, I do admit that the gem that is Erfurt's new opera house, the Theater Erfurt, does have me a little prejudiced in its favor
(although having said this, Dallas is going to have a splendid new opera house, the Winspear, opening next year - with a world premier of a new opera about Melville's Moby Dick)!
