Berlin Hotel Suggestion
I'll be travelling to Berlin with a friend May 28th-30th. We're looking for an accomidation somewhere in the city center area near all the fun/touristy stuff. We'd like to pay around 100 Euro a night. We have very different travel styles. I usually travel for work, stay at nicer/"business" hotels. She's more interested in feeling like her accomidations are more like a part of the place she's visiting. But overall what's most important is clean, safe and easy to travel around from.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Even if you don't stay at the following art hotel, you should visit its website. Go to: www.propeller-island.com. Mr Canuck and I stayed at this hotel in June 2004 and had a great time. It is centrally located (in West Berlin), about 2 long blocks to a convenient metro station. It is not a traditional, full-service hotel, but we found it that everything worked fine, email queries about bookings were handled promptly, the staff on reception were friendly and helpful, that breakfast was a good value, etc.
What's special about this hotel are the idiosyncratically decorated rooms. While the hotel doesn't reflect "traditional Berlin", it certainly strongly reflects an aspect of Berlin culture - and that's its artiness. Some of the rooms were a little too out there for our taste (would you like to sleep in a coffin? or perhaps a recreation of a East German jail cell, complete with an escape hole in the wall? or a room with a suspended bed? or one where all the furniture is on the ceiling - and you open up compartments in the floor to find your bed?). But they're fun to look at anyway. There are a number of very interesting (and/or beautiful) rooms that aren't quite so disconcerting. The prices are quite reasonable - there certainly a rooms in the 100-110 euro range. When you make a booking, you specify your top 3 room choices (so you won't end up in the dungeon unless you want to), and then staff reply and tell you what's available.
Have fun!

Try out the Palace Hotel. They are nice, clean and usually offer upgrades. If you are a LHW member even better.

I always rather like the Hotel Alexander Plaza - a somewhat business hotel with a bit of history as well! Great location too (at least for the bits of Berlin I like to hang out in!).

Their rack rate is a bit over your budget, but you might find some deals out there!

My dad often stays here:

Not a luxury hotel, but inexpensive and situated in the City center, only 150m from the Ku' Damm.

Berlin Accomidation
I always rush though Berlin en route to the morning train to Poland after staying out near the airport [ no particular hotel ] - just in need of a cheap sleep.
But a place i would look at if i had more time would be either the German Tourism site accessed via TourismRankings / Germany or Cheaper than Hotels - Berlin . There's also a good German equivalent at http://www.hotelsdeutsche.com/Germany/Berlin/

Park Inn at Alexanderplatz
I have stayed at the Park Inn Hotel, which is directly located at the Alexanderplatz.
The rate is slightly above your budget when looking at their website.
A great resource is HRS. I book all hotels via this site and have had great deals! ^
Good luck and safe travels!
