Recommendations for Italian restaurant in Munich please

Recommendations for Italian restaurant in Munich please
Hi All - I'm looking for your recommendations on a relaxed atmosphere Italian restaurant (e.g. not dress up) between Hbf and Marienplatz, or south towards Rosenheimerplatz U-bahn station. Would definitely help if they had an auf-englisch speisekarte... Just want something basic like spaghetti and an appetizer/dessert.


Also, does anyone know if Dr. Pepper is available in Munich?

Dr. Pepper is available in Munich but I doubt that a lot of restaurants have it. Come on, you are in Munich, you have to have some beer or if you don't drink alcohol, ask for a "Spezi", a local soda.

plz edit the title of your post to include Munich (edit -> advanced)

Besides that there should be a lot of italiens around there just by walking unless you want to have a real italien restaurant - italien food is to be found in a lot of restaurants.

I never did find it - will look when I go back later this year.

I wouldn't dream of going to Munich and not having beer - I had "ein mass" at the Augustinerbrau location by Karlsplatz, a few Loewenbrau dunkels at the hotel, and some Franziskaner at the airport lounge. All were great, though I think I'm partial to the Loewenbrau dunkel.

Didn't try the "Spezi" - will give it a go next time...

Sorry - it looks like someone edited the title for me (thanks to whomever did so).

As your post indicated, I lucked out and the specials at the hotel restaurant I ate at included spaghetti bolognese - it was very good. This was in Hogenschwangau (sp?) before a tour of Schloss Neuschwanstein.

Spezi is a nonalcoholic drink and a really good mixture between coke and lemonade. Of course you have to drink it cold.

I told in several threads and forums my opinion about Loewenbru. My choice would be the Augustiner... Now, after I read from different Americans and other foreigners how much they like Loewenbru, I know why they still survive. Most Germans (except of those who are fans of 1860 Muenchen ) would never touch Loewenbru

I've had Spaten, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Augustiner, and Loewenbrau, and I'm not sure I could reasonably rank them (I thought all were good) though I liked Franziskaner the least. I would also say that I much prefer LB dunkel to the "regular" LB (is that weiss?). I guess I'll go on in blissful ignorance, and no one will have trouble spotting the foreigner in restaurants when I order an LB dunkel...

I would rank any of those above most American beers (though I am partial to some microbrews here in Arizona).

Man, I just got back two days ago and I'm ready to go over again for some more beer... ^

This is one of my favorite chain restaurants in all of the world. Im staying the night at the airport on a short layover...what's the cheapest way to get there...and is it convenient to access from the metro? I couldnt tell by the map how far of a walking distance it was.

The cheapest way is the public transport system. Take either S1 or S8 from the airport to downtown. The closest metro stop is Odeonsplatz, maybe 5 minutes by foot. The S1 and S8 stop at Karlsplatz/Stachus and Marienplatz that are each about 10 minutes away from that restaurant. Take a map or ask for "Fnf Hfe" which people should know and it's not far from there.

If you have never been there, please note that the restaurant is not right on the street, it's inside the Fnf Hfe gallery.

By the way, there's a museum (Kunsthalle) in this same gallery, with a really nice cafe. Excellent place for a mid-afternoon German "coffee and cake" or a quick snack.

I had a most amazing meal at a small italian cafe right by the Hilton Tucher Park. Unfortunately I don't have the name of the place, but it is right on the corner of Widenmayerstrasse and Tivolistrasse.

A friend of mine & I happened upon that place really by mistake, just by walking away from the Hilton.

We spent about 40E each for the meal, but it was very well worth it. No spaghetti bolognese there!

If someone is handy with the web in german and can find the name of the place, please post it!
