But keeping the car until Berlin sounds good. It turns out that there is an Avis return withing a few hundred yards of the Intercontinental where the conference is happening.
I think I'll do as recommended above

If you like modern-ish art, I just visited Sammlung-Boros, a gallery in an old bunker, and it was very good. It's guided tours only - there are no emergency exits (there aren't even windows, just vents) so you have to stay with the guide. You have to make a reservation and it books up fast, but there are no-shows for the tours and they let walk-ins join to fill them out. My tour was fully booked (12 people) but only 8 showed. In german on the hour and english on the half-hour.

Hi all.
greetings from Berlin. It is gorgeous here.... mid 70s and sunny.
dropped the car off a couple of blocks from the hotel .. no muss no fuss.
we ended up staying in Bamberg. It was gorgeous. Our hotel , the Nepomuk, was right on the water near a falls in the old city. Beautiful. Good beer and some traditional food. Lots of lederhosen and dirndels in the streets.
thanks to all for the help. This is (one of he reasons) why I love FT!
