TXL special assistance

Hi there!

I have a question regarding special assistance at TXL. Two of my aunts aged 83 and 82 are flying from TXL to AGP. They are both not recognised as handicapped and both can walk (the older one is a bit slower but does not have problems to climb some stairs or walk 1km or so). They also both checked with their doctors and they are perfectly fit to fly.

However, my older aunt cannot see that well and given their age they are both a bit nervous about the flight. Is there a possibility to get special assitance for them e.g. someone who takes care of them when boarding is announced etc. At some airports they allow relatives (such as my cousin who will take them to the airport) airside for assistance. Is something like this possible at TXL? Any experiences?

Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,
totti

TXL will provide special assist if the airline requests it:

So you need to add the service to the reservation for the AGP flight. No need for a certified disability, just adding a mention will do. The deadline for such notification to the airline is 48h.

LH usually allows a companion to get a gate pass so the pax can get to the gate, I guess in TXL that could be available, but not very useful.

AB also offers this: http://www.airberlin.com/de-DE/site/...et_lid=6760031

Excellent! Thanks for the information. I will give AB a call and ask them to add a note.

Completely unrelated to the thread: I love how very authentically Berlin the font is on the TXL website; I can't remember the last time I saw written as ſʒ in a modern context that wasn't on a street sign there.
