Passau is famous for the three rivers joining which is a definite "must see". There are some lovely restaurants (Biergarden style) along the water and the downtown "Altstadt" is very nice, typical Bavarian as well.
Also, there is a big church / cathedral in the center, very beautiful. Can't recall the name.
If you are catholic or if you care for the Pope, the town where he was born and where he grew up is on the way to Passau. Very touristy and in my eyes not worth going there but some people care for it so I feel I want to let you know.

Another sight is the old bishop's fortress "Veste Oberhaus" from the 13th century with great view on River Donau

Be sure to do a tour with the riverboats, walk through the old town centre.
Supermasterphil already mentioned the current pope's birthplace Marktl am Inn, Alttting. Have a look here: http://www.papsthaus.eu/
Restaurants and beergardens are too many to recommend.

and English. It is one of the many hidden secrets of South Eastern Germany. ^BTW: In case you talk German, don't be surprised if you have problems understanding the local slang. Most of my friends needed quite a few weeks to understand Bavarian - and they are still far from understanding everything.

I second the recommendations for Burghausen and Altotting. Cool castle in the former, and interesting shrine complex in the latter.
And if you continue toward Passau, you'll pass near Braunau, in Austria, where you can see the house where a certain evil individual was born. Not a sight, but more of a memorial for the terrible thinking and actions that he represented.
Dialect, not 'slang'.
