Overnight FRA Layover
I'll have an overnight layover in FRA on an upcoming PEK-FRA-IAH trip.
I'd appreciate recommendations on hotels near FRA. Just basic, clean, comfortable accommodations, with free or nominal priced airport transfer.
No need for breakfast. Will be flying F and the FCT breakfast tops anyone elses.

We've stayed at the InterCity Hotel Frankfurt Airport twice in similar situations and been satisfied. It's cheap, the free shuttle bus runs regularly from FRA, the rooms are quiet and clean, and the beers at the bar are cold.
Friends always suggest we stay in Mainz or Wiesbaden, but we haven't wanted to make it that complicated.
BTW, we're doing the same thing later this year, HKG-FRA-JFK, both flights in F.

You can always take the train to downtown Frankfurt. Inexpensive, frequent. You very likely can find cheaper/better places there. And public transportation works well. You can also try to bid on priceline.

I said "cheap."
But a lot of people economize in some areas of their lives so they can splurge in others. As my mother likes to say, you can only spend the same money once.

I flew last year HKG-FRA-ORD in F on LH and also had an overnight layover in FRA. I opted to stay in town and was glad I did. As noted the train is easy and there are plenty of hotel choices near the Hbf. I stayed at the Savoy which was right across the street and very economical. It was nice to be able to walk around time a bit and over by the river which is a couple of blocks away.
I returned to the airport the next morning via the train and walked over to the FCT and schlepped up the stairs to the front door. It was a fantastic 5 hour wait. Next time I do it I will basically live in the cigar room....

I'd definitely not stay at the airport. The Sheraton might be fine for a WX or MX emergency but not a place one wastes time voluntarily.
If you have too many goodies to haul them by train conveniently, the taxi ride to and from the city also is quite cheap and then you get to stay in a walkable city.

If you want a compromise, neither airport nor city, AND a free transfer, one of the Holiday Inns offers this - and again, weekends are cheap.

If you have a bit of time, take a Hotel in Frankfurt. You may look at www.hrs.de, as it offers the most comprehensive overview of hotels, locations and prices.

If you want to stay at the Hauptbahnhof, consider the InterCity Hotel.
If you want a value for Money at a good location I would consider the

I'll be spending the night in FRA in a couple weeks, and didn't want to splurge 160E at the Sheraton so I have decided to stay at the steigenberger airport hotel for 93E.
btw does anyone knows how late we can do late night check in? The web site states until 10pm. But I was wondering if around 10:30pm it will still be available? I have never used this option before so I was wondering.
