The answer is no. The Business lounge is not worth rushing back to the airport for. If you can find someone to guest you into the Senator Caf on the Schengen level it's worth a visit, but the recent lounge access rule change means the guest will have to leave the lounge with the host. You will get a light meal (cold plate) on the flight, but Business seats on shorthaul LH flights are the same as Economy seats with the middle seat blocked. By the way in LH parlance J = C.

The train takes you to the centre of the city (Marienplatz), the bus takes you to the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof).
You can either take the S1 or S8 S-Bahn (running every 20 minutes each). The trip on S8 is slightly shorter, but if you missed the S8 waiting for the next S8 is not necessary - simply use the S1. Here is an overview of the network: MVV Suburban Train and SubwayOriginally Posted by NewbieRunner
As far as I can see the S8 train runs every 20 mins, the bus also runs every 20 mins. http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mvv/TTB/MVV4__0000385e.pdf

Since this is purely a thread about 'what do I in MUC on a layover?' I'll have to move it to the Travel - Germany forum.

Is a 5 hour, 45 minute layover in Munich enough to go into town and sightsee? If the S-bahn ride is the maximum of 40 minutes, then I have only 4 hours & 25 minutes max (even less since I'll have to go through security) to look around town. Is it worth it, would you say?

4 hrs is enough to walk around the city center and have a meal and a beer or get a short bus tour, but may not be enough to visit museums, etc. Take S-bahn (S8 is quicker, but S1 will do, too) to Marienplaz and just explore the surroundings if the weather is good, or buy a ticket for the hop on/off Grey Line bus tour.Originally Posted by RussianTexan

Alternatives: a cute, old city of Freising, about 15 min bus ride from the airport, where you can find a Rathaus, old churches, the world's oldest operating brewery and far fewer tourists. If you want to get a feeling for the real Bavaria, Freising may be the place to visit anyway. Think of Тверь, not Москва.
BMW Museum may be an option if the weather does not cooperate. It's also about 40 min from the airport.
Finally, the airport itself is one of the better places to have a 5 hr. layover. There is a decent beer garden, a hotel with a health club/spa day passes, lots of shopping options, an observation deck, and a neat flight simulator (mock up of a B737 cabin).
