First time on F9

I have been a loyal United guy for years and years, once made 1k but mostly silver or gold. I spread my loyalty around last year and have no status at all now for 2015. I may have to go to Vegas in March so just bought a classic plus trip from ORD to LAS one way for around $200. I'm a bit nervous since it's their only nonstop flight, but we will see. Great to have the option to refund a ticket, too, without having to pay for a $900 one way Y fare, like on UA. Here's to having no status and the lowest fare wins!

I wouldn't be too worried they still have several flights with a connection in DEN to put you on. Besides just because UA has many nonstops ORD-LAS doesn't mean if your flight is canceled there will be room on one of them. I've heard many a passenger at EWR who got stuck for 3 days because of a canceled flight because they were all booked.

Anyway, $200 O/W for a ticket that offers E+ (Stretch), a Free bag, priority check-in and boarding, and refundable its a steal. Plus you'll have Priority Security in LAS (unfortunately its not yet available in ORD because ORD is a newer station for them)

First time on F9

I'm in the same boat...first time on F9 going MIA-PHL in a few weeks on their once daily flight at 830pm. I bought trip insurance for $12 for peace of mind, which I never do when flying a legacy with lots of other flight options when there's a long delay or cancelation.

But in this case i couldn't pass up $149 OW fare. I splurged the extra $25 for a choice seat and will Pay the carry on fee when I do olci. I think my expectations are set after having read the fine print.

AA/US Had lots of nonstop and connecting options, but started at about $400 for the morning flights and $600+ for later in the day. The difference was far to much to pass up on this one.

I can report back on my first time on F9. It was seamless and simple. Checkin at MIA was fine, and right next to the terminal G TSA checkpoint.

1 hour before the flight, the line was about 15 people with 3 agents processing them so it was as efficient as can be expected. It seems most people know the drill and purchased their bag check in during OLCI since it's the cheapest option ($20 versus $25 at airport). Note: these fees go up to $25 and $30, respectively, for travel after May 1.

The plane was a little late arriving, but once the incoming pax deplaned the turnaround time was quick. We were on board a 6 month old Airbus A320 with the new-car smell, with no remaining open seats. The crew was nice and our "stretch seats" were comfy with those few extra inches of pitch. Water was free, but anything else cost a few bucks.

Arrived PHL about 20 minutes early, despite a late departure. The flight is blocked at about 3 hours, but the actual travel time is more like 2.5 hours and we had minimal ground time on either end.

$149 + $25 stretch seat + $20 bag check = $194. Still a good value for what's essentially a brief flight up the Eastern seaboard. The perks of being US Silver/AA Gold weren't enough to sway me to spend $600 for what would have been the same kind of flight at the time I chose (evening).

First time on F9 coming up

Flying F9 for the first time in July from CUN-PHL, flying WN down from BWI. I know this is an Apple flight, should I expect a circus show regarding check in/ boarding down there?

We'll have to see how this goes...

First Flight on Frontier in years

Flew IAD to RSW last Friday on a new Airbus 320. Nearly 4-million miler on United, so I traditionally flew on United to see family in Florida, even if it meant going thru Chicago, or used US when it was still part of Star Alliance. Here's my take:
1) tickets were cheap -- $39.
2) with fees for seating, baggage, food -- carry-ons cost more than checked bags -- the fares came to nearly $95 each.
3) Seating was not good. Newest economy seating was super thin and no recline, except in the front three rows.
4) wait for luggage was very long -- 30 minutes.

Only truly redeeming factor was the lead FA -- a gifted humorist. Advised us that almost nothing on Frontier was without a fee -- now investigating how to charge if conditions required the oxygen masks to be used.

First experience was great, TTN - STL (unfortunately this route was dropped). This airport is 52 miles from home, about twice the distance as I am from PHL. However, the drive to Mercer County Airport is all highway and about 5 traffic lights. I was able to park about 100 yards from the door and was drinking a craft beer at the tiny bar within 1:15 of leaving home. There were about 10 folks ahead of me in Security. Driving to PHL on mostly surface roads, parking, shuttling to the airport, going through security, walking to the gate probably takes 1:30. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Frontier and TTN. Until something goes wrong.

This airport is about the size of a bus terminal and does not have jetways, so we walked up ramps from both the back and front of the A319. Amazing how fast boarding goes when done this way. An uneventful flight both ways, the RT fare was around $130 or less including carry on luggage and seat selection.

About two weeks ago I flew TTN-MDW and my biggest complaint was the wonky website, it took me awhile to print out my boarding pass. But my RT fare with luggage was $104. I parked even closer to the front door this time.

For anyone using TTN, there is a little family owned Mexican place about two miles away, awesome burrito, but a bit of a mess to eat when driving.

My concern with F9 at TTN is the route duplication over at PHL. Almost every route is being offered at PHL now, and some with better frequency.

e.g. PHL-MCO at 2x daily while TTN-MCO is sometimes 1x daily, and no South Florida and TPA from TTN on daily basis. TTN-Chicago is slated to be seasonal now and will likely suspend in the November cold snap in Chicago. These are pretty much going to reduce the desirability for using TTN.

There are exceptions:

TTN-RDU is daily and F9 has moved the flight into the afternoon (instead of the 6:30am departure) which should stand out out better now with most leisure pax. There are no low fare nonstops from any carrier to RDU from PHL or EWR.

I wonder if it'd try TTN-CLE with a flight continuation to a market like PHX. It could strengthen the viability of a thru flight, having some feed, and if offered daily.

As for the South Florida, I wonder if Frontier would go daily with TTN-PBI, while keeping PHL-MIA daily. This way there is slight differentation between the PHL and TTN service atleast to South Florida.
