DEN-LGA cut to one flight?

DEN-LGA cut to one flight?

According to the new schedule extension DEN-LGA goes to one daily in November. What is Frontier doing with the other slot?

It's reduced DEN-LGA to 1x in the past.

Can we see LGA-UST? Will they consider it?

I was thinking about LGA-UST. Or LGA-MCO. Spirit and Southwest don't fly that route. Only Delta and JetBlue fly it with AA also from JFK. Neither which might not court the lower end as an ULCC. However, F9 awareness in the NYC metro, particularly out of NJ, is likely very limited so it might have to depend more on the UST (Jacksonville) or MCO side.

Actually I was thinking that the easiest re-use of that one slot pair is it adding MDW-LGA. It'd be a lot easier for Frontier to market New York City as a destination to it's Chicago Frontier flyers, than Orlando or St. Augustine to the smaller group of NY area based Frontier flyers since F9 is so small in the NYC market. It's also shorter by a couple hundred miles than LGA-MCO.

Frontier is slowly getting off the 3rd party booking sites as well. It'd have a tougher sell competing against JetBlue and Delta without much awareness.

A Frontier MDW-LGA at 1x daily, would just be like Spirit increasing it's 2x daily LGA-ORD to 3x daily in the overall NYC-Chicago air market, which is huge.

There are two important areas with which this new Frontier has not yet come to terms, and one of them is NYC and the other is New England.

If they ever do go to New England, I guess it would be BOS, but in Frontier's present adventurous mood anything seems possible.

I guess it is possible that there could be a viable alternate for NYC area as well.

Which are the 3rd party booking sites that no longer sell Frontier? I recall there being one.

If it's on 3rd party sites and wants to be on them going forward, then it makes LGA/DCA/BOS-DEN-LAX/SFO/SEA type itineries be able to purchased by those who don't know much about Frontier otherwise. And there are always those that book last minute, can't afford the nonstops, and look at all carriers from that point from the third party sites between the major markets on the coasts and the tickets are sold very high still and likely profitable, especially during the peak travel season. AirTran likely was only able to make MKE -West coast work on flow like LGA/DCA/BOS-MKE-LAX/SFO/SEA.

The other question is if DEN stays as a F9 hub as it was pre Indigo ownership, or becomes just one large focus, where connections through it aren't encouraged as much.

Regarding NYC, most of the airports are slot controlled and probably no where F9 can grow much. I was thinking if it did SWF, JetBlue is there, but JetBlue lacks TPA coverage and there is no Chicago out of SWF. Allegiant has PIE however but Frontier could probably take on Allegiant easier than JetBlue.

It'd still be very small and SWF is not marketable as NYC so much since it's over 60 miles from it. It's only 50 miles from Paramus, NJ however. Paramus is 69 miles from TTN. Mahwah, NJ is only 40 miles from SWF. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Mahwah as its 9th best place to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey (from wikipedia)

Wappinger Falls, NY is also within 20-30 miles of SWF. I know that area is nice as well. But I'm not familiar with all the areas.

HPN might be another option for MDW, but AA and UA service ORD but at high fares. AA and UA probably like selling at high fares to achieve high yields, so I don't know if both would make any move to counter a ULCC offering MDW service at low fares. JetBlue has Florida covered again here and every market.

To my knowledge there are two - Expedia and Travelocity, which (I believe) couldn't, or didn't want to, deal with unbundled fares.

Orbitz seems to have its act together re unbundling, it's almost as if the new "Economy" fare was designed with them in mind.

As to future routes, NYC or New England, I am find it increasingly difficult to imagine what Frontier would do. I've known about IAD for a week or two, but it took me by considerable surprise when I first heard about it and now I wonder "where's next"?

The other surprise to me is ATL. Back in the day, Delta (and Northwest) always went nuclear if Frontier invaded their turf, from the very early SLC-PVR through to what happened at MCI a couple of years ago.

But something appears to have changed and lo - this ULCC Frontier has five routes out of ATL, without Delta even saying "boo."

Can it hold? Will Delta let this IAD expansion - to ATL, DTW and MSP - go unchallenged? Or does Delta think the greater harm might be to United?

Or has Delta come to understand - as it appears to have done with Spirit - that Frontier's market is no threat to Delta?

It appears that atleast on CLE-ATL, for June 25th,

Frontier offers a low fare of $68.99 on it's 12:05PM flight.
Delta's flights on CLE-ATL are all $275 one-way.

However, where Southwest and Delta compete over on CAK-ATL, it's $110 one-way on Delta.

I believe Southwest's schedule gets updated tomorrow. It's CLE/CAK approach will be interesting to see. I wonder if it might move the ATL and BOS service up to CLE, and launch HOU eventually, while just having DCA, DEN (east-west) and Florida and maybe a couple of BWI frequencies added to CAK. If Southwest ever does move CAK-ATL to CLE-ATL, I think Frontier's staying power on the route becomes diminished.

I think it's safe to say that Southwest won't consider IAD-ATL as it already deleted it.

It's possible that Delta views Frontier in the Spirit, Sun Country category now over the Southwest, JetBlue, Virgin category but if Southwest is running a high frequency route perhaps outside of DEN against another carrier or maybe not, it might not be a route Frontier wants to run as well - e.g. I doubt we'll see CLE-BNA on F9.

Another one to watch is US, and relating to F9 on IAD-CLT. US has been matching Spirit on PHL-DFW with $74 fares. If US matches Spirit, then I could see US matching Frontier on IAD-CLT.
