Only booking until Sept 21?

Just went to flyfrontier.com today to look at flights in October (which according to my calendar is only 5 months away) and noticed that the booking window only extends to September 21st right now.

This is inconsistent with my past experience where I would often book 6 months out (several years I booked Christmas flights in late June/early July for example). Anyone notice if Frontier has been shortening the booking windows in recent months? Or is it possible this is just an anomaly because they haven't finalized plans for Fall yet? To me it's strange to not be able to book a flight 5 months out, I'm used to around 6-8 months.

I believe somewhere on the site flyfrontier.com says the next schedule will be out on May 19th.

Disregard that. May 19th is for Southwest's extension.

In another discussion, it was suggested that F9 does this to limit advanced bookings in order to accommodate the large share of close-in bookers that F9 gets.

I agree. I think that is common with Spirit (high share of close in booking) although Spirit's booking window is longer. F9 has been adding a number of experimental routes out east, but hasn't stated any are seasonal. I believe they can monitor performance, be non committal and make decisions to adjust the schedule including canceling a route earlier in without canceling pax itineraries. The last thing they want is another ILG-IAH fiasco but hopefully they have more experience being ULCC.
