Frontier pilots approve concessions

In a critical step in the resturcuring of Frontier, the pilots overwhelmingly approved the concessions proposed.

Several of the elements in the restructuring are in Republic's control, but this was a huge one they needed cooperation on. And they got it.

Two points stand out in my mind, from this article.
  1. The airline will shift some of its 100-plus-seat Airbus aircraft to those fixed-fee agreements during the slower winter season, Bedford said.
  1. Alliances may be formed with similarly sized airlines in other countries in order to increase its capacity to fly passengers internationally, Bedford said. But that also is not a task for the immediate future

I think the only way that first point would be true is thru charter service. There is no scope clause out there big enough for 100+.

I wonder if Alaska would be willing to have another codeshare partner? It seems like they could provide a lot of new destinations (Hawaii, smaller Alaska cities) without a whole lot of overlap (I doubt many people are going SEA-LAX via DEN). It would also help bolster some of the West coast markets from MKE if they could connect onwards. Likewise you could fly F9 metal DEN-ANC and then onward to a number of the small Alaskan markets.

How about WestJet as a Canadian airline partner? I think it might work.

We've heard about alliances in the past.

I'll believe it when it actually happens.

No kidding, he has said they will be partnering with some since they announced the Frontier brand was staying.

I wonder if Delta would still be code sharing with Midwest if they would have gone with the Midwest brand instead?

The problem wasn't the brand, it was DEN. Had RJET not acquired F9 and only YX, then it would be a much different story. They might not even be in business anymore.

The problems for Delta and Frontier started when Frontier announced SLC-CUN; Delta didn't like someone else coming into their territory, then it spilled over to Denver being too close to SLC. Considering Republic had Delta's (Northwest's ownership) permission to purchase Midwest, announcement came a day after the bid for Frontier was announced, as well as keeping the code share alive until the Frontier brand was announced. Had they called the airline Midwest, would Delta still have an agreement with the whole Midwest (including the Frontier operated flights)?
